sounds like fun huh? I am supposed to go to work tonight but all the roads to get there are either really flooded or closed...Don't think I am going in at all...

http://www.kitsapsun.com/news/2007/dec/03/storm-closes-roads-major-flooding-expected/

12:30p.m.: All access from anywhere North of Kitsap County past Gorst is closed. Access on Highway 3 is closed at Bremerton. According to a Washington State Patrol trooper, the best hope of getting to South Kitsap will be to wait until high tide goes down later this afternoon.

11:50 a.m.: Kitsap County declared a state of emergency at 9:30 a.m. today, meaning that local resources are overwhelmed to deal with the problems, said Susan May, public information officer for the Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management. The declaration allows the county to hire equipment and personnel that would not normally be available under typical contracting rules.

In addition, Emergency Operations Centers have been opened in Poulsbo and Port Orchard. High tide is expected to peak at 12:30 p.m. today. Additional flooding in downtown Port Orchard is expected.

People should call 911 if they see that someone's life or safety is at risk, May said. Otherwise, they should make sure that any actions they take can be done safely.

As of 11:41 a.m. in Port Orchard, a small mudslide on Highway 166, directly across from the Port Orchard marina, has left a tree lying across the road and closed traffic. Traffic is blocked at Gino's. This mudslide is not where slope stabilization work has occurred in the past, and is closer to town than previous mudslides.

In the downtown area, Bay Street and the West Bay intersection are flooded. No traffic is being allowed to go between City Hall and Sidney on Bay Street. The detour from downtown takes traffic up Sidney to Division, past the county courthouse, then back down Cline Ave.

— In Bremerton, the intersection of Sixth and Montgomery is partially closed due to water in the roadway, and traffic problems are being reported on Burwell Avenue due to vehicles being rerouted. In East Bremerton, homes on Dibb Street are reported to be flooding.

— In Central Kitsap, the southbound exit ramp from Highway 3 to Newberry Hill Road is flooded as is the northbound on ramp. The water continues downhill to the corner of Chico Way, Silverdale Way and Newbury Hill, and cars are creeping by.

Highway 303 northbound has been closed at Central Valley Road as well.

Flood warnings, high wind watches and road closures are being announced and updated almost hourly as an incoming Pacific storm continues to wreak havoc in Western Washington. A mudslide warning is the latest addition to the growing list.

In all, the National Weather Service has issued 15 separate weather warnings and advisories for Western Washington due to copious rainfall across the region and strong winds in some locations.

These include gale warnings, flood watches and warnings, a hurricane-force wind watch for the southern Washington coast and avalanche warnings in the mountains. A mudslide warning was added due to rainfall rates of up to a half-inch per hour in many locations.

At Bremerton National Airport, 6.23 inches of rain were recorded in the 12-hour period between 10 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. this morning -- believed to be a record for continuous rainfall in such a short period.

Downed trees, mudslides and flooding from the ongoing storm have closed some roads and highways in western Puget Sound. The North Mason School District has closed all elementary schools and announced limited or no bus service for some areas. Two elementary schools are closed in Central Kitsap, and Port Townsend schools are two hours late.

Road closures in Kitsap County include Central Valley Road between mileposts 6 and 7, the westbound entrance ramp from Old Clifton Road to Highway 16 at Tremont and sections of Tracyton Boulevard and Seabeck-Holly Road.

The Hood Canal Bridge was closed around 11 a.m., but has since reopened to traffic.

Road closures in Mason County include Highway 302, North Shore Road and a portion of Highway 106.

A flood warning has been issued for small and urban streams in many areas, including Kitsap, Mason and Jefferson counties.

Flood warnings also have been issued for all rivers on the Olympic Peninsula, and some are expected to have major or near-record flooding.

Winds gusting to 60 mph are possible through late this afternoon along Hood Canal. Gusts of 45 to 55 mph are possible elsewhere in western Puget Sound.

Here are more details:

- The Kitsap County Public Works Department is reporting water on roadways all over the county. Williams Lane East in the Retsil area has been closed due to a mudslide and Tracyton Boulevard between Tibardis Road and Stampede Boulevard near the Kitsap County Fairgrounds, and Seabeck Holly Road at Larson Lane NW in Seabeck have been closed due to flooding.

- In North Mason School District, there is no transportation today on Highway 302, North Shore Road, due to downed trees and water over the roadway. The road is currently closed to all traffic. All elementary schools are closed.

- In Central Kitsap, Green Montain Elementary School is closed due to flooded roadways. Cougar Valley Elementary is closing at 11 a.m. Port Townsend schools are running two hours late, and all preschool and morning kindergarten has been canceled.

- Fallen trees also have been reported on many other roadways, including Highway 106 in North Mason.

- High winds have been reported over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and along Highway 16.

- Three inches of rain fell at Shelton in the six hours between 10 p.m. Monday and 4 a.m. this morning. At Bremerton National Airport, 6.23 inches of rain fell between 10 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. today.

- A high wind watch remains in effect through this evening for the Hood Canal area, the coast, Chehalis Valley, the Everett area and the Olympic Mountains. Winds gusting to 60 mph are possible. Elsewhere in Puget Sound, winds could gust between 45 and 55 mph this afternoon.

- Winds of 81 mph were recorded at Hoquiam this morning before the wind knocked out the equipment. At Clallam Bay, on the Strait of Juan de Fuca, wind gusts could reach 90 mph. On the coast, winds could reach 100 mph.

- Power has been restored to most customers in Kitsap County, but more outages are possible later today as heavy rainfall and windy conditions persist.

- Flooded basements have been reported in many homes of West Bremerton.

SO just got out as the roads were reallly closing due to flooding. He had to take the ferry to get out as it was as all other ways were closed. I think he said the next Ferry would leave about 3 pm his time after his so the ferry was already shutting down.

It really sounds like a very big mess and that is a shame as it is a very pretty town and so peaceful. I really liked visiting and wandering around all over town on foot.

I hope you guys are able to recover soonest.
