My 6 yr old has these white bumps on the back of his tongue. He says they don't hurt, what could they be :dunno No other symtoms of illness. Should I take him to the doctor?

He has nothing at all? No other rashes? No muscle ache? Nothing?

I would say strep...I guess it could happen like that..I would keep an eye on it and make sure he tells you if he feels anything there??? Other than that.. I dunno

My sister always has those, and it's just the nature of her tongue.

But when my gramps got them, they were the early signs of a yeast infection in his throat - he was really sick and I guess his immune system was very vulnerable.

when he brushes his teeth does he brush his tongue too? it could be a build up of plaque on the back or it could just be how his tongue is. just monitor him and make sure he doesn't get any other symptoms

yeah, i would say thrush (not sure if older kids get that) or a yeast infection...

I would say thrush or a yeast infection. I know when my oldest had thrush, she had no other symptoms just white dots.

Okay I brushed his tongue really well and the white went away but the bumps are still there. Maybe he ate or drank something to hot (he had hot chocolate the other night) and his taste buds are inflamed or irratated??

Sounds like the little papilla are irritated is all.....if they don't hurt and they are just a few tiny little bumps then I wouldn't worry at all.

Just make sure you and he keeps his tongue good and brushed and there shouldn't be any problems

That's what doc said when I went for them, he said they've always been there :screwy But I think they just flare up from time to time..

I would get it checked out though regardless!
