Caimbrie 12-04-2007, 12:14 PM I think the punnishment should be more harsh. What it should be I'm not sure, but it should be harsh. It's SO dangerous and kills people. Kat 12-04-2007, 12:18 PM I think it should be a HEFTY fine for a first time offender. After the first time, immediate license suspension. :yes harrisonsdream 12-04-2007, 12:22 PM I used to date someone that street raced and it terrified me everytime. I absolutely detest street racing, if you want to race go to a track. I think your first offense you should have a license suspension, second offense your license should be revoked for a year, third or more offense license should be revoked for 5 years. *MarineBug420* 12-04-2007, 01:02 PM When my husband was in high school he would street race all the time. He loves his car and has the kind of car for that racing (custom engine) anyways He did it till his best friend died in his lap becuase of a race. Now hehasnt done it since. Athough we will whip around on the freeway sometimes it is nothing even close to what it used to be. Anyways I am all for the license suspension. I think that is a great idea and I also beleive your car should be impounded...ya harsh I know but true. Not to mention that guys that are going around with illegal street parts are only getting fix it tickets and they are fixing anything. My husbands dream is to open a track in his home town becuase there isnt on and he knows it would be a big hit and get alot of kids off the street. Jennie 12-04-2007, 03:19 PM Ok..Dh used to street race until he flipped his truck a couple times (which, BTW was not related to street racing). Almost every weekend here, there are races on a back road way out there. (I've been there to watch a race and attempt to drive a clutch). No one goes back there except for the races, it's a known race spot. He did end up losing his license because of it and hasn't done it since. He's been "street racing clean" for 3 years now. ashley5 12-04-2007, 03:21 PM getting your liscense taken away! it's dangerous people can get killed...if you want to go and be a jerkoff on your own place that's one thing. go ahead and kill youself. the roads are for the public to use! harrisonsdream 12-04-2007, 03:22 PM Ok..Dh used to street race until he flipped his truck a couple times (which, BTW was not related to street racing). He's been "street racing clean" for 3 years now. even though no one else goes back there they could still kill themselves or another racer. one of the guys from the San Deigo police department on the show said that if you have been involved in a street racing related incident (i.e. get a ticket for it) and you are found guilty/liable for it and you street race again and accidentally kill someone you are going to be charged with murder not manslaughter because you had the intent Rachael 12-04-2007, 03:22 PM getting your liscense taken away! it's dangerous people can get killed...if you want to go and be a jerkoff on your own place that's one thing. go ahead and kill youself. the roads are for the public to use! :tu :yes Jennie 12-04-2007, 03:48 PM even though no one else goes back there they could still kill themselves or another racer. one of the guys from the San Deigo police department on the show said that if you have been involved in a street racing related incident (i.e. get a ticket for it) and you are found guilty/liable for it and you street race again and accidentally kill someone you are going to be charged with murder not manslaughter because you had the intent I'm quite aware that people can get hurt or killed, regardless of where the racing is at, I'm not stupid. I only said it was a back road where no one goes to merely point out the point that it wasn't done on the road where other cars were, like on an interstate. harrisonsdream 12-04-2007, 03:49 PM I'm quite aware that people can get hurt or killed, regardless of where the racing is at, I'm not stupid. I only said it was a back road where no one goes to merely point out the point that it wasn't done on the road where other cars were, like on an interstate. i know i was just pointing out that it doesn't make it safe and that it can still have life long repercussions even if it isn't on an interstate Loretta 12-04-2007, 05:26 PM I think there is a difference between the street racing I participated in and the kind y'all are talking about. We would NEVER race on a street that wasn't blocked off. I think idiots that race on public roads whenever they feel like it should get the same tickets as other reckless drivers with higher fines. LaneyBug 12-05-2007, 07:50 AM I think the first time they should get their license taken away, and the second time they should get their cars taken away. I know that isn't practical, but if you have to take the bus then there will be no street racing. I have known two people that have been seriously injured and one that died street racing. It is STUPID and I don't get it. If you want a thrill, go skydiving, then you aren't putting anyone in jeopardy but yourself. ML 12-05-2007, 08:00 AM I have a friend who's in street racing ... he doesn't care that it's very dangerous and could cost him his life ... he's doing it for the thrills and just to show off how cool he is. Very immature and sad! My opinion on this issue? Street racing should be banned for unexperienced drivers. Professional drivers like Michael Schumacher I understand but kids who wanna be cool just to brag about it? NO, banned!!!! harrisonsdream 12-05-2007, 10:11 AM I have a friend who's in street racing ... he doesn't care that it's very dangerous and could cost him his life ... he's doing it for the thrills and just to show off how cool he is. Professional drivers like Michael Schumacher I understand but kids who wanna be cool just to brag about it? NO, banned!!!! see the thing is if they want to race so badly they have the enclosed tracks that you can pay to race and show off ya know. i know they aren't in every town but they should be especially in towns/cities with a strong tendency to street racing (houston is one of them and has a track) Rileysmom 12-05-2007, 11:30 AM First time license suspended for maybe 2 years or so. Hopefully that would scare kids into not even doing it in the first place. Second time lose their license indefinitely. Third time, jail for ten years. Hey if they would have suspended Nick Hogan's license the first time it happened, his friend would still be able to walk and speak. The Marine is now a vegetable. :sadeyes It makes me furious and sad. Joy 12-05-2007, 11:33 AM I used to street race in California. I got caught in Washington racing DH when we were just dating. :blush I saw many friend get in accidents in California street racing. Instead of making fines and punshiments. Make a way for it to be legal like they did in many of the local areas where I grew up. There were local parents and business tired of the car chases and deaths and accidents, and built safe speedways, that were monitored by trained automotive officials and adults. It saved many lives. Yeah but down here there is Friday nights down at Qualcomm to race, and they have an open drag up north. It doesn't seem to deter many people. I still see kids going head to head on the freeway all the time down here! :freakout I agree it would help, but I also think that there HAS to be legal repercussions for doing it. I had stiff fines, I believe over $2000 and suspension of my licesnce for 6 months if I violated the terms of my probation and I would go to jail. There ARE stiff fines. DH who was DB at the have the SAME stiff fines, the same probation AND he was required to file a SR-22 with his insurance company. And this was just for "comparing speeds". Not reckless driving, not for drunken driving, or driving under the influence, in California you don't get a SR-22 unless you get a DUI. But WA is more strict. Thanks for the info, I was wondering what CA's laws were regarding it... there doesn't seem to be much of a police force on the freeways/highway patrol out here. The average the cars are doing is about 15 over the speed limit and I rarely see cops out here on the freeway unless there is an accident. So I have always wondered... In CA unless you are doing at least 10 over, I wouldn't even EXPECT to get pulled over. I think I didn't get pulled over driving my mom's BMW doing 20 over at the age of 13 past a cop in Hollywood :rolleyes I was visiting in SD in Feb and I missed CA driving but was a bit shocked and yet missed it... had to kinda shift my gears to get used to it again. Cops were passing me and I was driving 12 over the speed limit :dunno ~Jess~ 12-05-2007, 01:30 PM street racing is completely stupid. It's dangerous to have these young kids racing on roads and acting stupid. I think racing should be taken to a track where it's legal and supervised. If they are racing on a track then my family wont be in any harm driving on the freeway. I most def think there should be a strict punishment for street racing. These kids are using a deadly weapon without proper training and that is scary. Crystal520 12-05-2007, 06:43 PM I think it is ridiculous that these "racers" are still doing it out on public streets when there is actual courses and areas setup for them to do these races. I lost 2 good friends of mine to street racing. It's not worth it. Crystal520 12-05-2007, 06:50 PM **Graphic Pics of a car wreck that my good friend Matt was in when he was racing another kid. He didn't make it*** It shows before pics of his car and pics of him and then it shows pics that were taken at the scene of the accident. It will make you think twice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1xy_8ubh1U mara_jade81 12-07-2007, 02:07 PM I'm thinking hefty fines and revoking of licenses for a good long time, street racing is incredibly dangerous and stupid. |
