View Full Version : Baking with Splenda?
Jennygirl 12-04-2007, 02:49 PM Does anyone use it?
I want to make cookies for Santa from DS but since DH is a diabetic, I want to help cut back on the sugar.
Does it make the cookies taste different?
USCGBoxerMom 12-04-2007, 02:50 PM It has replaced all sugar (sans brown) in our house and I never can tell the difference.
Trescha 12-04-2007, 02:52 PM I ONLY use splenda in my house. Even with our sweet tea. ANd DH didnt taste a difference until i told him i was using splenda instead of sugar! ;)
So go for it...i cant tell at all.
And now DH hates tea with real sugar!
Jennygirl 12-04-2007, 02:54 PM Where do you guys buy big bags of it, like maybe at a costco or sams?
Also has anyone used the brown sugar one?
Rachael 12-04-2007, 02:55 PM it takes a lot less splenda then sugar for anything :)
Traci 12-04-2007, 02:57 PM It measures cup for cp to sugar. I use it. I don't bake to much with it. I think I am doing something qrong because. the taste is fine but the texture is different. I know the splenda website has recepies.

really, when I read the outside of the box it said it was different. Like 1 packet of splenda equaled 3 of regular sugar or something like that
Jennygirl 12-04-2007, 03:00 PM It says it on their site, the conversions...I think its less...
harrisonsdream 12-04-2007, 03:02 PM you can't tell the difference

My DH is really picky as well. But he never noticed until i told him. SO hopefully your DH will be the same way. Just dont tell him at first! ;)
Firefly'sGirl 12-04-2007, 03:09 PM Make sure you use the baking blend...the straight splenda made my cookies taste chemically...
Jennygirl 12-04-2007, 03:18 PM I just need to get a good receipe for cookies now!
You guys rock!
Traci 12-04-2007, 03:31 PM really, when I read the outside of the box it said it was different. Like 1 packet of splenda equaled 3 of regular sugar or something like that
My bag says cup to cup. Maybe it's a different kind.
USNIwife 12-04-2007, 03:52 PM I only use Splenda. It tastes the same to me. Someone on here posted a Splenda thread (was it Shaky?? argh) anyhow I always thought it was cup for cup and the conversion is different. Make sure you find out what that is on www.splenda.com if they have a chart and if you sent cookies overseas (food save it, air vacum) and they do real well traveling.
Scribble 12-04-2007, 03:59 PM I only use splenda in my baking and no one can tell the difference. and the brown sugar is really good too! I (L) it in oatmeal.
USCGBoxerMom 12-04-2007, 04:33 PM I have not tried the brown sugar one....now I am going to have to!! The regular blend is cup for cup the BAKING blend is 1/2 of whatever sugar is called for.
*Dawn* 12-04-2007, 05:18 PM I use it all the time since i'm a diabetic...I use it cup for cup..its yummy in a cheesecake...lol guess you can't tell what i had for Thanksgiving..hehe
