View Full Version : University application
I'm applying to transfer my PhD to a local university in VA. The uni recently got in touch with me to ask for my transcripts. My problem is that they want the transcripts sent directly from my universities to theirs and my universities wont allow them to be sent to anyone but me for security reasons. I'm freaking out a little that I won't be accepted on a technicality! I'm sending the transcripts myself in the hope that they'll understand - do you think it'll be ok?

I had a similar problem, but as long as the transcripts are officially sealed, I don't think they will have a problem. Maybe get in touch with the Incoming Transcripts department at the new University and let them know what's going on?
Good luck with the application!! :goodvibes
I had the same problem when I applied to a local college, it was so frustrating. I ordered an official transcript from where I attended before and they gave me my transcripts sealed in an envelope, for a small price. I included the envelope with my application and they accepted just fine. Good luck, its so stressful going through the process.
Aah but they're not officially sealed either :freakout The UK isn't too bothered about transcripts - people don't request them that often - and when I requested them they just came in a plain envelope with my name on it and a note inside saying please find transcripts enclosed.
Rileysmom 12-05-2007, 05:24 PM What University is it Sonia, if you don't mind me asking? Is it a military friendly university?
It's East Virginia Medical School. I think they're military friendly - there was a question on the application form about military affiliation and when I mentioned it on meeting the staff they seemed alright with it.
They should definietly give you some consideration since your transcripts are not from the states. Can you ask your university in the UK to offically seal them and such and send them directly to the new university?
Good luck! :hugs
I would contact the school... they are going to be the only ones that will give you a definite answer, get the person who you talk with's name and go from there. Good luck
Rileysmom 12-05-2007, 06:24 PM Oh man, that's tricky! I am not sure of what to do! I would have to agree with Kara, call the school and let them know what's going on. A lot of the Universities that I know of offer special programs for international students and international transfers, so they might have some sort of policy in place already! Good luck! :goodvibes
jlbecker 12-05-2007, 06:25 PM i have done this before, but it's probably a good idea to get the a-ok from the university too.
i sent it to myself BUT ***IMPORTANT*** when you get it, DO NOT OPEN IT. they will reject it if the official seal is broken. there is usually a sealed envelope inside of the mailing envelope. place it in another envelope and mail the SEALED one to the new university.
congrats on continuing your studies in VA!
edit: aw crap, im sorry i just read the WHOLE thread. ummmmm.....maybe you can take it to a notary and they can officiate that is it an original, unaltered transcript....?
I emailed the university, explaining the situation and stating that the transcripts themselves have holographic stamps and watermarks on them so they're pretty much tamperproof. Hopefully they'll be sympathetic! I'll post again when I get a reply.
Thanks for the advice and good luck wishes :)
I got a reply from EVMS, telling me to just send in what I have. :whew I hope it's good enough for them!
