Yes today is my birthday (dec. 6th). But my db told me via-myspace that his friend signed him up to be deployed to iraq. I wasn't happy at all...I mean of all days!!! Idk...wut do u guys think? I'm not sure how to handle this. All i told him in response is that I'm glad he told me but I'm still sad 'n' just have mixed emotions. This is going to be my first deployment if he does go...any advice or thoughts ladies? :sadeyes :depressed :worry

I dont think a friend can just sign them up. He can definitely volunteer. SO maybe he did that, but didnt want to tell you he is willingly going, so he used his friend as a cover to see how youd react :dunno ...either way...good luck :hugs Deployment is hard, but there are lots of ladies on here getting thru it every day, and can even help you find the positive things that can come from them.

thank you for ur input.
I will definitely look into this...
and also to add a little more to this thing is that he'll b deployed for a year...
if anyone else looks at this, is a year a long time compared to other kinds of deployments?

me again :giggle :bump A year kinda falls into the middle of what ppl do. Some have 7 months, some do 18 months. So with a year, it could be better, it could be worse. It usually depends on branch and job and are deployed to. Maybe some other women can give you better specifics! Again, good luck!

Happy Birthday! It's mine too.. I'm sorry to hear that he's deploying, even though it feels like a long time right now, and will in the beginning I'm sure the time will fly by for you. :hugs

:agree

Mine leaves on his B-day jan 2nd.. for most army with training and all that good stuff, it ends up being around 15 mos- 18mos. with about 12 mos actually overseas. Just from my experiance though. Its so different with different branches and etc.

Good luck and keep us updated.
