Forgive me if there's a post about this already and I missed it, but I was just wondering... how do you girls that are married to an active duty service member go to college? I'm having a problem with the fact that we're never in one place long enough for me to actually start and get some credit hours in... and I thought about checking out online colleges, but I don't know which ones are legit and which ones aren't. I saw the post in here about coastline community college, and I'm going to check that out, just wanted to see if anyone knows anything else that might help me out. Thanks in advance!

Online degrees are the easiest option, though I couldn't advise you on which college is best to go with. Also, some colleges are military friendly and thus will allow you to transfer whenever you have to move. I'm going through a transfer at the moment and whilst I might not be able to transfer all of my credits it's a lot better than not being able to transfer at all! Good luck with finding a college that you like :goodvibes

I was very lucky that my husband had a 3 year lock at our first base (and now current base) so I was able to complete my associate degree and go on to work on my bachelor degree at the main campus a hour away. He then PCS to Korea for a year and put this base as his follow-on so I was able to finish up my bachelor degree during that time. I am now in my second semester at Penn Foster (yes, some are iffy about it but I'm secure in my decision in attending the program) for my associate degree in veterinary technology so I can work at a zoo or wildlife facility.

What ever decision you make, I wish you lots of luck!

I got my bachelors when he was in the Air Force so we were actually there long enough for me to get done. I'm going to do my masters online.

Do you have any credits yet? If not, I would suggest looking into a local community college. They often times have online classes and you can continue to finish your degree from there. Just make sure you know what you want to do, so that you can find a college that has a four year degree plan and you can be sure that your credits transfer. Or you can go to the Comm colleges listed on the SOCNAV plan, and it will ensure that your credits transfer from one school to the other. :) That's the main problem that I had throughout my time as a Navy wife and college student. I currently should be starting as a senior b/c of the amount of credits I have, but due to the fact that many won't transfer, I have to start as a sophmore or junior at the bach. level. :td Good luck!

I am currently attending CTU which is an online school. It is the sister school to AIU (mentioned above). Classes are only 5 weeks long and you get a week break in between every session. I will graduate with my Associates in June and then my Bachelors in Sept 2009.

I found going through Military.com to find military friendly schools was a little easier for me.

Good luck in your decision!
