Jason knows one of the specwar guys at pt loma that works with the dolphins, and he said that I'm more than welcome to come over there with the kids and help feed the dolphins :oogle:wowsers I can't believe it, I am SOOOOOOO excited. My dream is to work with dolphins, so getting to feed them is maybe the closest I'll ever come :lol

I will take a lot of pics, if they will let me. I don't know how the area is set up so I don't know if taking pics of the area would violate any sort of OPSEC but I hope they'll let me snap a few. I am sooooo excited. :clap

Oh that is awesome! They had them here for a while for training, and dh said he would take me down there, but the area they were in was super high security for other reasons, so it didn't work out. I was so disappointed!

Oh, that is VERY cool! I will have to look into that more because that is exactly what my oldest daughter is planning to do. She is joining sea cadets this summer to prepare for Jr. NROTC in high school and NROTC in college specifically to work with the dolphins who do the mine searching.

You should be able to take pictures cause about 3 years ago the dolphins were in the welldeck of the ship DH was on cause they were going out to do training. They let all the guys come see them and DH took pictures so I think you should be able too.

Dolphins are a lot of fun to work with. I did an internship at Sea Life park in Hawaii. Hope you have fun!

That's so cool! I always saw them when we were out there. Out here, off the beach on Ft. Story, they have wild dolphins. I've yet to go out there and NOT see them. Once there was about 20 of them out there not very far from the shore. :wub

It was very common for us to see them all over the place when we lived in Jax, FL. We saw a lot of sea turtles, dolphins, manatees and other sea life. I really miss that :sadeyes

Which reminds me, I'm really wanting to do the whale watching (I think it's through the hornblower) but does anyone know if people typically see whales out there? I know WA state is good for whale watching but I didn't know SD had many whales. So, I was just wondering how common it is to actually see them. I've never seen a real whale in the wild :ohno

We were on one of the family day cruises and saw a whale out there, so I definitely know it's possible!

ahhh I LOVE dolphins! How exciting! One time we were in hawaii on a family vacation and we were swimming in this like chanel thing and like HUNDREDS of dolphins came in and came up to us and swam with us even the babies that were like a foot long! it was one of the coolest things that has even happened to me

Very cool! We see them ALL the time, I even swam with them out in the Gulf once. They are really cool animals.
