:D So I got a letter the other day from Nick and he told me that he graduates, January 11!! :D I am sooo excited about seeing him!!
He's graduating from Great Lakes, IL. I know that it's really cold there, lol but I'm not sure of how I should dress for this. Should I go in jeans and a nice shirt or a nice pair of slacks and a shirt? This is a first time for me! lol
I am soo nervous about seeing him again! lol
I was also wondering if anyone else is going to be there around the same time I am.
I have a little problem! lol His parents are flying to IL with me, and I think they want to fly back home the day after his graduation, and Nick wants me to spend the whole weekend with him (I am aware that he has to be back on base by a certain time), so if they leave to go home I would have to rent a car. I am only 20 and I know that in MA you have to be 21 to rent a car, and was wondering if anyone might know the age to rent a car? I really really, want to be there the whole weekend because I'm not sure when the next time I get to see him is.

Well, hun I live here at Great Lakes where your DB is and it gets COLD. Last year we had probably weeks with days that even at noon it felt like -20. No joke. Did I mention it gets COLD. :lol No, but seriously, it hasn't been too bad so far. But January is when it got extremly cold last year so we'll see if it is like that again. I think today our high is mid 30s. I have no clue about the rental car. Have you looked up rental car places up here? Maybe it will say on their website. If not they should have a phone number. Oh, I just wanted to say to make sure you get there early. I'm talking be in the parking lot by 8. And traffic is CRAZY on graduation days so plan to leave early to get there early.

Congrats on his graduation soon!!!!!!! I've been to 2 up here and they are pretty cool. Even in the blistering cold. :giggle

no problem in california u have to pay an extra fee if ur 21-25 under 21 is a no no BUT military can rent a car if they are over 18 so if ur db can rent the car (but he has to be the only one driving it) but u might have to check and see if its the same in Illinois

You probably won't be able to rent a car because of the over 21 factor. I do believe that there are trains that run into downtown Chicago from Great lakes. i think i remember dh talking about taking one when he was in his short little school, but that was about 12-13 years ago give or take.

hey! I live in Illinois, and it's COLD here! I recently went to see my bf graduate in SC and it was cold there too, but not as cold as it is here. No one dressed up because we were all just trying to stay warm. I wore jeans and a nice shirt, and lots of layers plus a winter coat haha. So definitely dress warm. GOOD LUCK!

to stay at the hotel on base ( the navy lodge) he has to sponsor you ( i think) but those rooms fill up fast and it's on the other base, not the side he is on so you still have to find a way to get to the other base for PIR.

i live here too...and just to reinforce...it's cold...you'll need boots, hat, coat, gloves...the whole nine yards....i believe if you are under 21 you can rent a car her...but there is an extra fee....but...taxis are everywhere on and around base during graduation and the weekend...cause they know that's where they make a lot of the money cause a lot of the people in the school don't have a car.....so you'll def. be able to get transportation w/out a car...plus if you want to go into downtown...the metra is like two seconds down the road...
