I thought I would share this with you all, I thought it described soldiers to a 'T.' DB put it in his first email to me, which I got this morning.
"I am happy and proud of what I am and what I am doing. Those dang people who hate the military for no reason should try walking a mile in my boots and see what happens when people ignore foreign threats to satisfy their own selfish agendas and desires. Greed for wealth, power, and supremacy over their peers breeds contempt and ultimately we, who volunteer to serve our country, forfeit our constitutional rights to protect and if necessary lay down our lives in the defense of those liberties people continually take for granted.
I've gone where others fear to go,
I've done that which others would not,
I've asked nothing of those who gave nothing,
I've cried, suffered and hoped,
felt the bitter cold of loneliness,
looked into the face of death,
and enjoyed the sweet taste of a moment's love,
At least some day I can say
I am proud of what I was, a soldier,
though my duty is hard I will not falter,
though my body is destroyed,
I will not die
for my soul is now a ghost that will continue my duty."
:tears It made me cry to read it, but also made my heart swell with pride that I am his girl.
