I'm asking opinions and suggestions on this.

I'm going to write "A wife's guide to dealing with PTSD" there isn't one. I've been collecting questions, and ideas etc. To put in here.
Are there any common questions, lack of resources, any concerns that you have, any suggestions that should go into this you think?
This is FOR you, so I think that the suggestions should be BY you!

My dad and I are also working on collecting info. on experiences with counselors etc. I'd like to ask permission to take some vignettes from in here (removing ALL identifying info of course) for use in presenting to higher ups. (Dad's a flight surgeon, 0-6 in the AF, and knows several Generals, fo whom ALL feel that this needs to be changed.)

What do you think? What do YOU have to say!?

Thanks in advance- Kate

I would prefer it if you didn't use any of my stories. Even with "identifying info" removed, the stories in and of themselves can be identifying, and well, I'm not so sure hubby would approve of some of the things I've posted in here, so I'll be removing them and watching what I post from now on.

Ugh, I'm sorry that you feel like you can't post about it anymore. :sadeyes

Are you going to be writing specifically about PTSD due to going to war?

I have PTSD related to a traumatic event, but its not war related.

I will be writing about all kinds. And Laurie, Youdon't have to worry, you've said no , I WILL NOT use your stories. It will be a long time in the making anyways. Feel free to post. If you want it in legal writing so you'll feel better, I can do that for you.
You don't need to be afraid to post. If it was going to be a problem, I wouldn't have bothered to ask permission! ;)

I would love to be able to find stuff about PTSD and kids. There isnt much to find out there now though. It's been rough.

I plan on that for sure! I think that's an important missing element. I'll be sure to include that topic. BTW in the thread titled "PTSD Resources" in here there are a few links for people with kids. I couldn't find much :( . That's a GREAT suggestion! Keep em coming!

I would also like to say I think it's a great thing you are doing!!! Having just gone through a deployment with a crappy FRG group (please don't use that, LOL), I had to find anything/everything I could on the internet. Thank God for the internet!!!

One thing that has frustrated me is why no one from the military, the VA, etc. asks anything of the family as to what the returning soldier is going through. I say this simply because Scott doesn't even realize HALF of how he's different, changed from his experience. Of course, this is totally understandable but I think the family members, especially the spouse or SO could give so much better insight into the struggles our guys face when they return home.

Also, in my case, I am just the lowly fiance, LOL, so not being his spouse I am not "entitled" I guess you could say to speak on his behalf in this way. I have spoken on the phone to our local Vet's office in regards to counseling to help me handle some things here, help Scott adjust, etc., and I am not entitled to this because I am not his wife, so that's a bit upsetting. Shouldn't it be what is best for him?? Especially where Scott has no problem with this....he even agrees they should speak more with the family members. So that is another very frustrating aspect. Grrrr!!!!

I'd be more than willing to help you out in any way I can. Feel free to pm me or ask questions here.

That is a FABULOUS idea!!!!! I don't even think the Navy has workshops to deal specifically with PTSD.

I'm sorry that you feel that way :( Your stories could be very helpful to people here on the boards that are going through similar things. :hugs

I think that is a WONDERFUL idea!!! I think it would be so very helpful! David has been suffering with it since he came back from Iraq and it really is horrible.
