I just ordered the 200 piece cake decorator set. I am actually looking really forward to getting it. Has anyone ever used it? I am hoping if I can use it, and make the cakes elaborate enough I can make a lil $ on the side for it

I used to love to decorate cakes and was very good at it.. My grandmother taught me and I took some classes. Then I got diagnosed and have no desire to make something I cant have or that will make me break out too. I could try on gluten-free cakes but theyr gross lol
Its actually very relaxing and fun, youll love it!

My gal pal took the cake decorating classes from Michaels. She learned to do some pretty incredible things, learned how to make fondant and whatnot. I would love to learn to do that sort of thing.
Good luck.

LOL - my DS wants to order that for me SO badly (but I already have tons of cake decorating supplies).
Once you get it try self-teaching and, if that isn't working out, take a class or two. Decorating is a LOT of fun and, yes, you can make some $$ on the side - especially if you can find a niche' such as doing more specialty/personalized cakes than what is available using the plastic pieces used by your area bakery departments. I do a lot of shaped/3-D cakes (not using shaped pans - actually cutting out/sculpting the shape using basic cake pieces) because people like being able to have a "one of a kind" cake (and they are willing to pay more for that). Within the military community "rank" cakes were one of my most commonly ordered cakes for promotions - also, unit/branch insignias. A good tool to help with more detailed pictures is rice paper as you can decorate right over it (it dissolves) and it gives you "cheat" lines so you don't have to freehand your image onto the cake ;-)
The one thing I will say based solely on having seen the commercial - the bags you get in that kit are not that great. One of the first things I would suggest investing in is some good quality (ie Wilton) re-usable decorator bags. They are heavier duty and will hold up a lot better. Disposable is nice but I have never liked the way they feel and have had some issues with leakage/blowouts with the thinner/cheaper bags.

I have it,and I love it! Some of it looks overwhelming, but I suggest taking a cake decorating class. Their well worth it,and will definitely help in the long run since you're looking into making $$$ off this. Good luck!
