Has anyone else dealt with this? :puzz Every since he came back, he's ALWAYS sick.. He used to never get sick. Not ever. He was wiped out all weekend with the flu, every 3 weeks it's something else.... fever, headaches, vomiting, strep throat, sinus infections...:tired

The VA says, "Everybody adjusts on their own schedule, give it time."

Is it the re-reacclimation, or has immune system been damaged from all the inoculations?:confuzzle

Dh has never been the same since joining the Navy, with all the crap they pump in them, :shrug who knows. He should have the flu shot every year, but he has been skipping it because he just makes everyone else in the house sick with it.

My ex has been sick alot lately too. Seems like eveytime I talk to him it is something. He was rarely sick the whole 6+ years I have known him and this year he always is. So maybe it is the same thing as your dh?

hmm can't say that dh gets any sicker than normal but he hasn't had the same stuff that the guys that go to Iraq/Afghanistan/etc get--he just got the boot camp ones.

Ya know, my brother did his year in Iraq, and he's sick all the time too. He came home just when DH was leaving... It's always something, and I never catch what he has.. He's the only one in the house that gets sick, no one else does :shrug

well you have to presume that some of those shots suppress the immune system somehow. Plus with all the new shots they get now and the small pox vaccine there is no way to tell how it works all together and with the immune system.

Yea, he's had the smallpox, the anthrax, the hep A & B, typhoid, TB, rabies, meningitus, malaria.....all at once.... :tears I think it's hurt him, I don't think they've meshed well together... And the VA won't tell him anything... They've diagnosed my brother with GWS. :no I wonder if DH has the same thing going on. :tears

I was just thinking about how many times DH has been sick and no one else caught it. He just had a bad cold the other day. The only different thing DH has gotten lately was a smallpox shot last year and a flu shot.

I know this thread is a few weeks old, but I just saw it. Hubby got a bunch of vaccines before going over to Iraq. He was never sick and strong as an ox. Well, all that has changed, he has connective tissue disease, arthritis, and degenerative disc disease in his back and neck

Chuck is never sick and I know he has had a heck of alot of shots. I think everybody handles things differently.

My DH and i were jsut talking about this. Our oldest nephew is 16 months, our youngest is 20 months BOTH have spech delay and are being watched for autism. All four of us (DH,BIL, SIL) have had Anthrax & DH has had smallpox. (VAXes)

He (DH) wondered if it is something in the Anthrax making our kids a little wonky. Makes me want to do a study and see how many of the young kids of military have issues going on. (Dh and I have both been to the gulf but DH has been further in the sand box then me)

I could go on for days about the damn Anthrax and how it can't be the same vax as the one they have been giving to vets and meat packers because THAT vax is for a blood borne pathogen, the one they give us is for airborne. Two different strains. I don't like thinking about all of the meds and shots I used to have to get. I refuse to get a flu shot and I don't give them to my kids either.

DH got all those same shots, and I feel like he has been sick more than ever as well, his immune system doesn't seem to be as strong. He's about to start another round of them too for next deployment.

actually the anthrax vaccine is not designated soley to cover against airborn that was one of the problems with the vaccine. and there are a lot of children with birth defects and problems and although it cannot be definatively linked with the anthrax vaccine i was be suspicious.

DH has degenerative disc disease in his back now...as well, he is always tired, and to me its excessively tired. I remember when DH got his last group of shot before he got out of the military and he was incredibly sick for awhile. It is a scary think to think about what could have been done to his body.

If he was sick, I never knew, he'd NEVER EVER write home to me and say, "I'm running a 104 temp, and I'm sick." :dunno Just how he was...

But he's gone through a temperature change since coming home, hottest day there was 150F, coldest here so far has been -30F...

I think I may throw up!! This is absolutely amazing to me! DH called me Sunday and said he had strep throat and thinks he got it from his vaccines!! Thats just crazy to me!! I know that a vaccine is a small amount of whatever you are getting vaccinated for and they put it in your system to help build immunity to it! But I didn't think it was gonna be that bad!! I think I may cry!! I hope DH is well!!

and omg, do I want to bring kids into the world now that he has had these vaccines? I mean they could end up with a horrible diease and not be able to live full healthy lives!! This scares the living daylights outta me!!wowsers:depressed:tears:

In one of my sociology classes, we were talking about a new study out. It hasn't been published yet, but it is showing that if a veteran has children after coming home from Iraq, his children are "x" times MORE likely to have birth defects. They are saying this is due to a few different things. 1) All the radiation in Iraq from bombings, etc... and 2) all the different CRAP they are given while they are over there, or before they go over there.
It really makes me sick to think about it. Especially since the VA and gov.t will never, ever admit it, even when the study is published.

I know DB has bad reactions to a lot of his shots. And he's definitely gotten sick a lot more in the last year than ever before. Dunno if it's stress or vaccines or what.

BTW, I've been reading up on smallpox and the vaccine and... eek... that sounds like a nasty vaccine to have to get. I'd imagine that can play pretty bad havoc on the immune system for quite some time. That's why they can't give it to a ton of people.

my DH has a skin condition (psoriasis) on the small pox info they gave him prior to getting the vax (before he went on his last west pac in 2002, since then he has gone to the actual sand box once as well attached to the Army) it states NOT to give it to them if they have psoriasis or eczema. They told him he "oh it should be all right" and gave it ANYWAY. I mean why do they think they HAVE guidlines for vaxes if they are just going to ignore them.

My husband got all of his shots to go overseas and as soon as he started getting them, he has been sick constantly. I never related it before. I'm a little concerned now. I don't remember him getting sick but maybe 2 times as long as i've known him but he has gone form having the flu, to a head cold. He is not sick right now but he coughs constantly.

I'm surprised to see that all of your SOs have been getting so sick. My Dad and my Husband have had all the same shots (my Dad's had more) and my siblings and I came out "normal" and my daughter is perfectly healthy.

The only condition my Dad has is Jungle Rot-it's a fungus he picked up in East Asia in the early 80's and it's kind of like LSD-it never really leaves the system.

ITA!!! I have totally thought about if there maybe an anthrax/autism link. I have never heard anyone else that thinks that though.

They're trying to give my husband his small pox vax before he deploys....he has psoriasis, I have psoriasis and one of our sons has horrible eczema. So we're pushing them to wait until he's there, so we won't risk the exposure to the rest of us. Not cool!
