View Full Version : Ad Format

I'm taking a poll just to get a little feedback from all of you as far as what you'd prefer. Please vote in the poll, even if you don't have a reply.

I was thinking about moving the top advertisement to a place that I personally feel is a little less 'in your face'. If you log out and view the posts as a guest, you can see the format I am talking about. It would basically be integrated to the side of the first post.

Th reason why I'm thinking about changing it is #1, the little square ads are more relevant topics, usually and #2 I really hate the ad across the top and would really prefer something more "in line" and less distracting, but without adding a side column to the side (I HATE side columns). Above the ad, I'd have a little note that the ad is a militarysos sponsor, so that there would be no confusion with people thinking the ad is posted or endorsed by the poster.

This would be a good solution to both but I'd like your feedback so please vote. :)

I prefer the banner. I just scroll past it and forget about it. I've gotten used to it being there so I just start reading below it. I feel like the one on the side is more distracting, but that's just my opinion.

Oh wow, you think it's more distracting? I'm just not a fan of the banner ads, I guess. They are hard to place without sticking out like a sore thumb, they usually aren't that relevant to the topics, and I feel like it breaks the site up a little bit. I will give everyone a chance to vote for a while before I make a decision though. I'll just go with majority rules on this one, probably.

I can provide a screenshot once I log onto my other computer, since I have NO graphics program on this one. If you log out and view any thread as a guest, I have the ads enabled for guests so you'll be able to see it then. Just look to the right side of the first post.

If I do decide to go with that format, I may just break it up some and I'll be sure to put a little sponsor line above it so, like I said, no one will think the ad was made by the poster.

That's just a general idea of the layout/format. I guess I just like that it's more integrated, with less scrolling and such. I'm open to all opinions though, for sure!

I don't like the side one, it looks like the poster added it. :td honestly before I was jewel I never even noticed the ads, unless it was a colorful banner, occasionally something caught my eye to click, but normally i just ignored. them

I totally prefer the banner, but really, don't you WANT the most annoying ad that people are going to be more likely to see the click on? :lol

i was always clicking on the banners by accident. :teehee it wouldn't have bothered me so much if it opened a new window, but it would steal the SOS window. :lmao

Ha Ha, true.

I just pay for the jewel membership so I don't have to worry about these things. :giggle :D

When I forgot to renew my membership earlier this month I had to deal with the ads for 1 day and that was enough for me. If I had to choose though, I would prefer the banner.

:lol Yeah, that is super annoying. What browser do you use? You can set Firefox to open anything you click in a separate tab so that it doesn't reload your page.

I wish I could make the ads open in a new window. Maybe I can talk to google and see if they can advise me how to make that happen.

Thanks for your opinions ladies. I'm mostly just trying to figure out what you all like, because I have the ads enabled and they don't really annoy me since I'm used to them, I just want to do what everyone prefers since this is ya'lls site too :)

Theyre annoying to crap out of me now that my jewel ran out!! I just cant pay for a new membership right now so I'm trying to ignore them and trying not to throw the laptop when I accidentally click on them.

it really makes no difference to me, but I chose the new way because I always accidently click on the ad when I want to be in the window and scroll, so thats why I chose the new way.

Banner. I scroll past it and it's over. The other one is irritating, and I have left a couple forums because it's so highly annoying and there were such heavy adverts all over. Not to mention if it's more "relevant" to a specific thread, you could have some pretty nasty ads in there that we don't want linked to our sites (like the cheating wives sites that were up a while ago).

I like it the way it is. I barely notice it - just scroll down to the post and miss the add all together.

I (personally) hate ads that are in line with what you're reading. I know news sites do it a lot and I can't stand it. I'm always scanning the page too far over and confronting the ad in the middle of whatever I'm reading and it really distracts and bothers me.

When it's like it is now - a banner - I find it much easier to avoid, ignore, and pretend it doesn't exist.

:dunno That's just my opinion, since you asked.

Brandi,

I totally prefer it as is, leaving the banner.
