View Full Version : gas prices
mossey2000 01-05-2008, 10:26 AM Barrels of oil recently went above 100 bucks a barrel. How has the high gas prices affected your budget?
For us, not much. I've been combining my trips since gas went up to 1.75 in 04 lol. I thought that was high, now I would almost kill for 1.75 gas.:no
dotb182 01-05-2008, 10:34 AM we're pushing $3.00 here in va
fridaynightgirl 01-05-2008, 10:35 AM Same here, in Texas. I think I saw $2.89 yesterday and thought to myself, "wow, that's cheap - I should fill up." :faint
There isn't much we can do about gas - we just have to tighten other areas to compensate for spending extra.
Twink 01-05-2008, 10:35 AM we're pushing $3.00 here in va
same here in TX adn I hear that prices are forecasted to get to near $4 by this summer. :wow
Pretty soon I'll be walking everywhere
rosebud* 01-05-2008, 10:38 AM yeah just this past weekend it was like 2.85 or so now it's 2.93 :no i too remember when i thought 1.90 was too much.. :tears
Teresa 01-05-2008, 10:52 AM The gas here on base is $3.15.. up from $3.09 just a couple of days ago and $3.03 last week :wow It doesn't affect our budget too bad since dh's commute to work is only 5 minutes away and I try to stay on base as much as possible. I paid $46 yesterday to fill up my tank ( almost 15 gallons ) and that should last me at least a week.
USCGBoxerMom 01-05-2008, 11:17 AM $2.95 here (as of last night, don't know about today). I am not surprised it's gonna hit $4.00 this summer, that is the high travel time of course, we will be pcsing....which will SUCK.
Lefty80 01-05-2008, 11:21 AM It's $3.09 here in IL.
~*~Katie~*~ 01-05-2008, 11:39 AM were so close to 3 dollars its insane
Donna 01-05-2008, 04:50 PM We are pushing 3.40 I believe. It hasnt changed our habits at all. I have always budgeted high for gas. I have been using the same amount for years, now we ususally have $20 left over at the end of the month in the gas money.
define 01-05-2008, 05:06 PM Yesterday, it was $3.35 off base. :dunno what it is on base.
Like Donna, I've always budgeted high for gas.
theElephant 01-05-2008, 05:10 PM Umm...we're paying 4.29 I think for gas right now and it will go up next month again(we get montly prices through NATO coupons). We just buy extra books when prices are down and buy less when they are up. We compensate.

That is how my parents did it when we were in Germany too. Especially when I got my car and started driving.
mossey2000 01-05-2008, 05:32 PM I wish they had gas coupons here.
Dragonfly76 01-07-2008, 03:10 AM We're over $3 here in San Diego. I'm just glad I work close to home and I have a small car.
Dragonfly76 01-07-2008, 03:10 AM I hate double posts. Sorry.
Bryanna 01-07-2008, 03:20 AM it was 3.09 a few days ago... last i checked it was somewhere between 3.17 and 3.25 (dont remember exactly where :oops)
it hasnt changed my budgeting much... im lucky enough to not currently have any bills OR rent to pay... so i try to keep my purchases to JUST gas that way i can SAVE.
Steph* 01-07-2008, 03:29 AM $3 something here.
TallBlondie82 01-07-2008, 06:59 AM its 3.15 in philly
Pebbles 01-07-2008, 07:27 AM steady at $3.49 :pukey
LovinMyNuke 01-07-2008, 07:28 AM 3.35 here in sd thats off base. My dh's truck cost around 80 to fill up right now and that only last him a week, only going to work and back.My car on the other hand about 40 -45 and it last forever cuz i never go anywhere I can basically walk to the store if I need something.
deewix 01-07-2008, 10:19 AM Last night.....it was 2.95 a gallon in San Antonio.
Brandi 01-07-2008, 10:28 AM It's around $3.40 here I think, but a few weeks ago it was getting close to $4. :pukey
It doesn't really effect us too much since Jason does the majority of his traveling on his bike. It costs about $10 to fill up his bike and he only fills up MAYBE twice a week. SO, he spends less than $100 a month on gas, easily. I only fill up the van twice a month at $50 a pop. So, we spend less than $200 on gas each month. I've always budgeted about $250-$300 so we're okay right now. Though it does make me sick to have to fill up the van. $35 used to fill it up and I thought THAT was expensive :lol I'm just glad we don't have the suburban, it would cost us around $80+ right now to fill it up. :pukey
I have not gotten gas since Christmas Eve :shock
So, right now, I am not feeling too many effects, I live in the same intersection as my campus, so I walk to school. When I start at the board of elections next week I will more than likely walk there (it's about a mile alway).
I do find myself not doing things I might do if gas was cheaper, like driving 30 minutes to sonic :lol
I don't budget really (awful I know) and just spend money as I have it, always keeping a certain amount in the bank for incidentals. So, if I am low on cash, I don't drive far.
Victoria 01-07-2008, 11:10 AM The price of gas was a PITA...so much so that we purchased an 08 Honda Civic SI and sold our Blazer. The Blazer was getting like 16mpg, whereas the Civic gets 32mpg. With my husband driving about 40 miles a day to college, the Blazer was sucking our pockets DRY!
rosebud* 01-07-2008, 12:40 PM It's around $3.40 here I think, but a few weeks ago it was getting close to $4. :pukey

omg our burban cost like 85-95 if we let it go all the way to empty. Dh only drives it to and from work so a he fills up just once a month unless we need it to go somewhere. i fill up my car 2-3 times a month and it only takes about 35 bucks or so. :sigh
sailorswife01 01-08-2008, 03:28 AM since the prices are so high, we dont usually fiil up both cars. the hubbys stays full cause he is the one who works, if i have to go anywhere i jsut wait and take i=his car when he gets home although there really isnt that much of a difference to fill his up or mine up it maybe differs 5-6 dollars
we've been above $3.00 since fall of '06 here
Loretta 01-08-2008, 12:25 PM It's $3 here...
I am SO GLAD I got the car I did...we spend about $25 a week on gas, and that is back and forth to the base(20 miles away) every single day, as well as other trips!
