I am very new to this site and being a Marine spouse. My fiance is being stationed at Lejeune at the end of the month so I will be moving down there in February to be with him after our wedding. I have MANY questions about what it's like down there on base. I'vedone my research but I'd like to talk to some wives who have some first hand experience. Please help! :sigh

Oh, come on, how can it possibly be boring - you have all those lovely strip clubs and a WalMart :lmao

To the OP - a lot of it will depend on your personal preferences and lifestyle. If, for example, you enjoy outdoor activities, etc it isn't a bad area at all. If, though, you are looking for an exciting night life, etc you're not going to enjoy the area too much.

I live here at Lejeune. I lived here as a child when my stepdad was in the Marine Corps, and this is mine and dh's second tour here. I will tell you that there are no where near as many strip clubs like there were in the 80's. I think there's only a couple now (Driftwood and Tobies). I really like it here, and there are things to do. Wilmington is 50 mins south of here, New Bern is 45 mins north, Raleigh/Durham is 3 hours west, and Myrtle Beach,SC is 2 1/2 hrs south. We live on the base and we are only 7 miles from the beach. The base has a lot for families and a lot of activities. If you need to know anything else, don't hesitate to ask :)

Jacksonville is pretty boring, but I really liked it there. :)

Make sure you have full coverage auto insurance, theres TONS of car accidents here-especially on Piney Green, which is one of the main roads. Also, NEVER go to WalMart on the weekends, especially payday weekends or after 10 PM, unless you want to park across the street and walk. Other then that, its great!!

thanks for all your answers. girls. we plan to live on base in the beginning until we can save up some money if that makes a difference. i don't generally go to strip clubs so i think i'll be able to steer clear of that :D
