if your going to drive, you might as well buy a plane ticket. if you look online you can get good deals. i think they say tuesdays at night is the best time to look. but i mean over 2000 miles ONEWAY...
lets just say your car gets 30 miles to the gallon... you would need 66 gallons of gas to go 2000 miles, then lets just say gas averages about 2.90 a gallon that 191 dollars. just for one way, then driving back. so thats 382 dollars!!
i think u can find a plane ticket!

I've driven cross country before, twice actually. Are you having someone go with you to drive when you get sleepy? Or are you planning on staying in a hotel? 'Cause after you add up all the expenses (food, gas, hotels, etc) it just might be cheaper to go for the plane ticket. :)

about 6,000 miles round trip, we have relatives in KY, maybe a stop on the way back in texas, and it will be accompanied by our son and my in-laws...i average about 800-1000 in cost. i was going to spend about 700.00 on me alone, i might not know for sure until the week before, i need to see how the weather is

I was always told by my father, "plan as if you are doing it alone" i plan to pay for his family, lodging, meals....if they pitch in awesome, but i wont count or ask for their help. My husband wants to see his family, he will...if they come out of their pockets, trust me i wont say NO! lol! they get to babysit if my hubby gets to stay overnight, which i doubt he can..

i really appreciate everyone watching out, i am so happy that even in this messed up world, people do care!

thanks, keep it coming, i need to make sure all bases are covered!

one thing i would do to help w/cost:

go to walmart and buy cokes, water, whatever you drink and plenty of snacks, and make a rule at the gas station you only buy gas and use the restroom.

you can save soo much money doing that!!
what you pay for 2- 20oz coke's you can buy a 12 pack!!

i was planning on taking my cooler & DVD player, since i will have my son with me...maybe some lunch meat for him.

i am still trying to figure it out, you know how it is, someone always decides not to go!

i wish he would call so i can ask if he wants me to go alone or not.
we just got married and he had to go back...but i understand its his job

how is your deployment going? how are you?
