I guess I've made some battle buddies too. I called my bestest one tonight and talked to her for over an hour about how things have been going.. There seems to be alot of common issues, and a couple that are unique to each of us..
She said that he had some trouble putting on his ACUs this morning, because he's put on 50 pounds since coming home. His cholesterol has skyrocked, but he hasn't been going to the gym like he used to. I told her not to worry about cholesterol, that's something that can be dealt with easily.:yes
She said that his arches have collapsed from all the walking on the rocks that he did. His feet cause him constant pain to the point that he's lost motivation to do his daily tasks, that's probably why he doesn't go to the gym anymore. He's working with the VA on that, but they aren't much help. :jerkit go figure..
She said that he coughs constantly, and has been asking the VA to check his lungs. He worked in a welding shop with my DH, and he did alot of grinding and welding. She is concerned that the fumes and dust may have damaged his lungs.. I told her that is kind funny, because my DH doesn't have a sense of smell anymore. I can smoke in the house, and he doesn't have any idea.
She said that he told her the respirators that were provided to them were CRAP and didn't work well at all... This caused us both to get a little upset, because if we had known the respirators were pieces of crap, we would have gone to Home Depot, or a welding supply company, and purchased some good ones and sent them in a care package..
I'd gladly shell out $200 for some proper PPE for her hubs and mine. :tears Why didn't they ask? Why didn't they say anything?? :spank I did send him some welding hats, he used them....
She also mentioned his eyes.. He uses eye drops constantly through out the day because his eyes cause him so much pain. They had to purchace their own sunglasses, and their own safety glasses.. His eyes appear to be damaged..
One common thing that we talked about, was our men's hearing damage. My hubs has always had bad hearing in his left ear because he drove semi for a long time. He kept his window rolled down, and it caused him hearing damage. My friend's husband has even joked with me about his ears... He says he doesn't want disability, he just wants his hearing back.
So the VA has told her hubs and mine the same thing, they got the same letter.... "We are unclear what your hearing was like before your serivce to Iraq, so we cannot assert that the damage occured while you were deployed." Both our men had complete physicals at Camp Shelby in September of 2005 before they were sent out... WTF is that? They had the hearing semi trailers right at the camp.. I don't understand how they could send us those letters. :puzz
It concerns me about her hubs, that he seems to be unable to get his daily tasks done. He has to make lists everyday, and still doesn't even get off the couch. :no
Blah. I'm done for now...:banghead
