1. do you need a military id to meet them when the ship docks or do they have a way you can set up some sort of guest pass?

2. how do you find out what day the ship is pulling back into homeport?

im wondering about these because i want to meet my fiance with a birthday/welcome home cake:hungry that im trying to get ordered for him from charm city cakes off of the food networks Ace of cakes, so any help you can offer would be appriceated:oogle

I wasn't married to my husband for his deployment a year and a half ago and I was able to get on base the day the ship pulled in, we're in Florida. I stopped at the pass office and they told me I didn't need one if I was meeting a ship. I would check with your DF to see when they're pulling in. You could also ask your DF if he can provide you with the phone number or email address to the FRG and possibly they can help you.
Good luck!!!

oh that is a sweet idea but it takes a long time to tie up the ships the last one was like 2.5 hours and it was a decent size ship not a carrier i don't know about the small boys though. i would leave the cake in the car cause your going to be holding it for a while. i would contact the ombudsman closer to homecoming time and she can give more information about the homecoming. i hope you enjoy yours and its soon..

:yes
It does take a very long time to tie the bigger ships up. Have you considered just meeting him and suprising him with the cake at home. I also deck the house out when he comes home. One time I got a 6 foot clown that sat in the yard saying "Welcome Home".I am just thinking holding it or having it sit in the car may not be the best idea. If you have young kiddos forget it.:giggle You don't need an ID for getting in to meet a ship. Depending on the base a visitors pass is all you should need. The base should have a pass office. I would call them. Also the FRG or Ombudsman is a great idea.
