my friends hubby was stationed over there and he said that he liked it because he lived like he was rich..

so he says..

she didnt mind it either but she also had a whole lot of health problems (they are an older couple) so it was rough for her at times but she didnt mind it

well my DB was there for a while and his description was:
"it sucks unless you're looking for cheap prostitutes or jewelry"

don't mean to bring you down. some people may love it. :)

My DH liked it over there for the 6 months he was stationed on a ship there.. he went back in '06 for 2 months too... The pay is good, but Bahrain is expensive.. their dinars are equal to almost $3 american.

My DH is deployed there right now. He likes it I guess but he would rather be home with me. ;) He doesn't really go out much except to go on a computer to chat with me. He doesn't drink so when he does go out it's usually to eat something. :)

My wedding ring and my family ring along with a bunch of other jewelry came from there.. They craft most everything from 18 kt. gold and have higher quality stones than you can get in the states.. most diamonds sold in the US are bleached.. Bahraini diamonds come from Egypt and aren't bleached.. my wedding ring is worth 3 times what DH paid for it over there..

ohh that's so cool!
yeah he got me what he calls "between a promise ring and engagement ring" from there. it's white gold and has a blue topaz stone. i'm really excited to get it. :)

so you might get some good jewelry when your DB goes over there loves_her_sailor ;) haha

Yep.. you just might..

Sounds like a pretty ring.

DH also bought DD a bunch of jewelry, everything custom.. she and I are quite spoiled. :D He also brought back "mink" blankets.. if you're setting up house, it's a good place to get rugs and things too.. He's been twice, and has a suit made each time he goes.. Full cashmere for less than $100, custom tailored.. you pick the fabric, and everything.. it's pretty cool.

is the communication relatively easy? i'm worried he won't be able to contact me easily, i know it won't be as easy as it would be stateside, but some places overseas are easier then others.

Yes he'll have state of the art comms. He'll be able to get on computers for email, and some even have webcams at the call center.. He can call you DSN via the call center as well.. it's free. If he's got a "world" phone, he can take it over there.. or he can get a prepaid cell over there..
