Hello everybody! I :hi
I posted an introduction over at the newbie board, so I've got some questions for all of you San Diego gals.

We're going to be moving to San Diego from Maryland in late May, early June, depending on when my husband is ordered for duty. We don't have orders yet, so we're just going by what little information has been passed down from his peers.

I have a slight problem; my son has autism and if we leave in June, we run the risk of not being able to enroll him in summer school. This is a huge issue because he needs to NOT be out of school for 3 months at a time, or it could seriously hinder his progress.

Which is my dilemma right now. I can't enroll him to school until we establish some residency in San Diego, which I can't do because I don't even know where we're going to live, what city, etc. Housing is not an option for us.

Can anyone give me some tips/pointers on the "better" school districts in San Diego? I'm going to have to make a choice, find a place, and get residency before the end of the school year so I can get my kids, but especially my son into summer school. I guess I'm terrified of getting him into a less than desireable school district.

We are in the poway school district. One of the best in SD. I know a few families in our neighborhood actually who are military in fact one has got pretty serious autism. The school he goes to here they just LOVE. www.powayusd.com I live in the Rancho Bernardo area and rent is not to bad at all. The area is pretty and lots of great people.

Thank you aelsass! Especially for the note about the family with the autistic child you know. We've been pretty lucky in that we've had our children in pretty good school districts up till this point--Riverside County Ca, which had a WONDERFUL special ed program, and Montgomery County Md, which is one of if not the best district in the state. I'm really scared that I might choose wrong and my son will suffer as a consequence.

I'll definitely look into Poway, as I've heard nothing but nice things about it. Hopefully it won't be too pricey for us.
