View Full Version : Whidbey Girls - My dogs are missing.
G.R.I.T.S. 01-27-2008, 01:39 AM today we came home to find our Siberian Husky and Boston terrier missing from the yard. They dug out of the fence sometime after we left. We are guessing about 1pm. They are both pure bred, males, neutered and microchipped. They have on thier collars with ID tags and also thier microchip numbers. My husky is black and white with blue eyes and my boston is black and white with brown eyes. My husky is 3 years old, about 65lbs. My boston is 2 1/2 years old about 20lbs. I have pics!! I already called 24hour pet watch to inform them and I am calling the shelters in the morning and the vets offices if they are open. But if you find a husky or boston terrier please please let me know asap! We are worried sick. its freezin and raining. They could be anywhere, hurt or something. I dont know. We have looked high and low and theres no sign of them. :panic::beg:worry

HeatherA. 01-27-2008, 11:42 AM Nooo! Hopefully the microchip and tags will work in your benefit. Since they are family dogs, they probably will get tired of wandering and go up to a family, who will hopefully call you soon!!!
MontanaSweetie 01-27-2008, 11:49 AM I am so sorry, I hope you are able to find them soon. I know I would be completely freaking out if I were in this situation. If you have pictures of them, create a flyer and post it at any/all local Veterinarians, animal rescue's & shelters in you area, and possibly some local businesses as well. You & your dogs will be in my thoughts!! :goodvibes
Maybe in the future, you might want to kennel your dogs instead of leaving them in the backyard. I say that only because I speak from experience as I have had one of my dogs dig out of the yard before.
:hugs to you!
rcwant2be 01-27-2008, 12:51 PM i hope you've found them. i worry about leaving my dog in the fence when i'm not around. i don't want her stolen or escaping.
JustBreathe 01-27-2008, 01:47 PM I hope you find them!!! Huskies are master escape artists, so he was probably the one who found a way out! Have you called the local shelter to see if someone dropped them off? I am so sorry :hugs
G.R.I.T.S. 01-27-2008, 02:28 PM Thankyou! They are home safe and sound. Kota my husky was found bunkered down in someones field, and he didnt want to leave that spot thinking BJ was going to find him there or catch up, but when my dh left to go pick Kota up I heard something in the garage and looked out and it was BJ. He high tailed it to the door and was waiting there for someone to open it. Hes a little injured but other wise okay. I gave him a bath and now hes resting in the bathroom. Im so glad they are home.
JKirstiH 01-27-2008, 02:58 PM I am so glad they are back. I am sure the whole break out plan was the Boston Terrier's idea. My Boston has somehow broke out of a locked crate:)
I hope the rest of your weekend is relaxing!
Miss B Hav'n 01-27-2008, 03:50 PM SO happy there was a happy ending. One word of warning, now that they discovered the art of escape they are that much more likely to pull a repeat performance so you might want to either dig-proof your yard (burying wire below the ground surface along the entire length of the fenceline) or, more of a guarantee, make sure they are contained in a kennel or the house when you are not home.
G.R.I.T.S. 01-27-2008, 04:48 PM I do have an underground fence and my dog got out of his radio collar somehow and dug a hole and it tore the wire in half and thats how he was able to get out. The break out plan was the huskys idea. they are known for being escape artists. The fence has worked well for a few months. I guess he was able to get the collar off somehow and realized that he wasnt getting shocked if he got too close to the fence. I think some deer came in the yard or something that made him want out so bad. Anyway, My dh is out there fixing it now.
Rachael 01-27-2008, 04:48 PM ahhhh, so glad you found them! :)

Actually I was referring to if you had a physical, vs invisible, fenceline. In that case you would want to attach a 1-2 foot section of wire to the bottom of the fence after creating a trench that would allow you to have it running under the ground, angled into the yard, around the fenceline. The idea being that the dog starts to dig, hits the wire, is unable to dig "through" and does not escape under the fence.
Invisible fences aren't all that, imo but I do hope that your pups stay safely within your's in the future. I just am not a fan of dogs being left outside when no one is home anyway :dunno
HeatherA. 01-28-2008, 01:37 AM WHEW!!! Thank God. So happy to hear they are home!!
SailorsWife 01-28-2008, 01:56 AM I am on whidbey island and I will keep my eye out for them
