View Full Version : What to send a new mom?
dannysgirl004 01-29-2008, 10:49 PM Ok yeah I know dumb question since I am a mom my self and have one on the way. But anyhow. DH sister just had a baby Jan 13th. I guess she has very little for the baby. I really don't want to send her money or a gift card because I don't think she will spend it on the baby. So I have a few outfits and bottles that she said she needs. What else can I send her that isn't going to be a fortune to ship? I am drawing a blank right now!
JudyB 01-29-2008, 10:52 PM What about a gift card to a baby store??? She'll be forced to spend it on the baby then :yes
Other than that I would find things that fit in a flat rate box like little blankets, burp cloths, onesies, socks....things like that
I recently sent a gift basket with fine chocolate and tea, especially for "her". Seems once we drop the baby we are overlooked! :D
Just surf...and I put in the search box "free shipping"....and found some.

I would send something for her but really she has like nothing for the baby. She told us last night she is only breastfeeding because she has too not because she wants too. It is a weird situation and I want to help out the baby.
inmansgirl06 01-29-2008, 10:58 PM Maybe a bunch of diapers?

I was actually thinking about that because they don't weigh much. She is in CA too so I know the shipping won't be as bad as if we had to ship it all the way across the US. I wish I could just get her a Target card and trust her not to spend it on her boyfriend.
Victoria 01-29-2008, 11:16 PM I got a Fisher Price aquarium crib toy and swaddle blankets for DH's brother and SIL. Those were lifesavers for us, when Ethan was a baby. I ordered it from Target or Amazon and had it shipped directly to where the baby shower was being held.
Mommy2Bailey 01-29-2008, 11:18 PM Spit cloths,onsies,gowns,powdered formula if she wants to ff,refill wipes,bottles.
usmc_wifey85 01-29-2008, 11:18 PM Lots of diapers and wipes lol. At least I know thats what I would want.
FTCWifey 01-30-2008, 09:42 AM I personally would want those good, practically homecooked prepared meals that you can have delivered. Not the crappy, high sodium freezer section stuff, but you know good prepared meals. For the life of me, I can not remember a single companies name. Nothing better than not having to cook, IMO. But diapers of all sizes are also a great buy!
rosebud* 01-30-2008, 09:46 AM For baby basics, onesies, footed pajamas, diapers, wal-mart ( as much as i hate that store) has their garanimals brand which is cheap enough and you can usually buy like the pants and shirt for cheap. Socks ( always a must)

You know what was one of the most awesome gifts I got? A bunch of things I never even knew when I'd need.
Infant Gas drops, Infant tylenol, teething gel, teething tablets, gripe water, etc.
Because the first time you need something like that is usually in the middle of the night when you can't run out to the store. Know what I mean?

I was soooo going to suggest the gift card to a baby store.
Ashnbri 01-30-2008, 10:18 AM baby bath stuff, pacifier holders, baby spoons, those bottle brushes, baby Tylenol, diaper rash ointment, diapers, crib/car seat toys, baby music CD's
Cangel14 01-30-2008, 10:53 AM Too bad you have to ship something, I was going to say a homecooked meal... after I had my dd I had NO time or desire to cook (neither did dh) and I really wished someone had made us a cassarole or something that we could easily heat up or even freeze. BUT maybe see if some place near her can deliver food, like those pre-made meal places. Also diapers is a good idea, you can have them shipped to her from like BRU or some place. Gift cards are also great!
