Capital One has recently started offering an Image Card, where you can download images to their website and place them on your credit card. What a fantastic idea...

I submitted a picture of my husband, who is currently deployed, in his US Army uniform. I was sent an e-mail stating that the image could not be approved for several reasons. After calling the company to find out which specific reasons they could have for possibly not allowing a photo of the US Military; they informed me that the picture of a soldier could be considered:

Controversial
Offensive to people against the war
Cause problems at Point of Sale because it may be offensive
A political statement

First of all, if you're against the war, that doesn't necessarily mean you're against the troops. Secondly, if the sight someone in the United States Military is offensive to you, get the fuck out of this country. And a political statement? Soldiers don't make the choices, they carry out the orders, plain and simple.:reallymad

I am disgusted and disturbed that this company, who has the right to operate freely because of people in that uniform, has the audacity to deny support, or even a picture on a card that I carry in my own wallet. I am closing all accounts with Capital One. I suggest you pass this on, especially to those within the military community.... Give them a call even, just to let them know how you feel.

I would call Capital One and tell them that you are sorry that it seems to be offensive to some idiot but it is a military member's paycheck that pays that bill and works to defend their rights to have the freedom to have a company

I guess if I were you I would have turned it around. Let them say that. Than counter with freedom of speech, etc. to express who you are and what you believe and that as a card holder you within legal reasons are permitted to do this that and the other.

But honestly to read your post. If I were you. I'd close the account, tell the rep to make a special notation of WHY. Send a written certified letter to their corporate headquarters.

I am in the process of transferring my balances to a Citibank card, which by the way has been AMAZING about the SSRA (no min. payments, 0% interest), and canceling my Capital One card. I plan on writing letters to the company, as well as local news outlets. Although it may seem small, it is horribly offensive to me that they would deny me to support and be proud of my husband on my own credit card! :smackup

Have you thought about going to the press? I cross posted on a closed forum and there were many suggestions about just who - in National News - might be willing to take your complaint national - getting the word out about just how anti-American this company is.

We ordered 2 image ones for us and didnt run into an issue.

well for scra we do no charge for anything for fees or pay by phone and the rate drops. But you get it you need to fax a copy of the orders on the offical letterhead. Its the requirement for any bank

I have a capital one card now and so does DH but I haven't been happy with them recently. This is even more of a reason to get rid of them!

I have a Cap One card and I have never had any problems with them at all. I can understand though why you would want to cancel your account with them because it happened to you but I wont cancel my card with them unless they did something to me to warrant it. It has nothing to do with whether they do or dont support the military.

OP I have heard of Capital One doing the same thing. In fact they told my husband that he couldn't use a picture of him in his Dress Blues on the card.

Each job treats people differently. I am really sorry that citibank treated you badly. But the fact that YOU are getting treated well at Capitol One does not mean that everyone is.

Not everyone is treated badly at Citibank, each person can have different experiences but that is no reason to go around cussing and saying fuck it to everything.

and i just dont think that they are censoring it for a good reason. would it be a problem if i wanted to put a picture of a police officer in uniform on my card just because gang bangers dont like cops? no. so it shouldnt be an issue if i want a picture of my fiance in uniform just because people dont agree with the war. heck, i dont even agree with the war, i just support the soldiers. theres a huge difference. so i cant understand why a picture of a soldier is offensive. its not like im putting "I LOVE THE WAR" on my card.
