View Full Version : TTC Question
thejibstah 02-02-2008, 06:58 PM Okay. So we aren't quite ready to TTC, but I have a question for when we do.
The first month after coming off BC I've heard it said that you are likely to be a bit more fertile that month than subsequent ones. So I'd like to try and shoot for BDing around ovulation the first month off.
But how do you go about figuring out when you ovulate the first month off BC? Not like I can track leading up to TTC. Just try to pay attention to CM? I've never tracked before, so I have no idea if I ovulate around day 14 or what. I've always had a regular period, but I've also been on BC for 4 years.
Just looking for some advice, and I know we've got some ladies that know what they are talking about!:)
DakotaCowgirl 02-02-2008, 07:04 PM I've never heard that the first month you are more fertial. I heard you are still having some effects of BC that first month.
Hope someone has more information!
AG2Wife 02-02-2008, 07:06 PM 'egg white mucus' is usually a tell tail sign. Also, try OPKs

same here... i've heard it takes a couple months for you to O again ...
VinnysGirl 02-02-2008, 07:09 PM I am PRETTY sure I ovulated this second month I've been off birth control. I had the CM and the cramping and then it was gone in a flash. So now I'm just counting the days until I get my period to know for sure if I did when I thought I did! :goodluck
Temping, charting, checking your CM and the OPK's are probably what would work the best though!! I'm pretty sure I DIDN'T ovulate the first month off the bc.
aingealbaby20 02-02-2008, 07:09 PM I never heard of the first month being the most fertile either, but I know when I got off BC it tool me a month before I got pregnant so it was the second month after I got off BC
Victoria 02-02-2008, 10:19 PM I've READ if you get pregnant w/in the first month of coming off birth control, you're more likely to have a miscarriage!
Antonia 02-02-2008, 11:22 PM Actually, this past month was my first month off BC and I've never been so on-schedule with everything before...
thejibstah 02-02-2008, 11:24 PM One of my mother's friends is the person who said about the first month being more fertile. She was actaully speaking in terms that the first month after you go off BC you are more likely to have twins. She is in the medical field.
thejibstah 02-02-2008, 11:24 PM how do OPK's work. Is it just like taking a pregnancy test?
Jennifer 02-03-2008, 02:22 AM I've never heard that about the first month off BC and I've been TTC a while.
I'd suggest checking your CM(anything really wet or egg white like is fertile) and using OPK's. You pee on an opk, just like a pregnancy test, but with OPK's there are almost always two lines. An OPK is positive when the test line is as dark or darker than the test line. Most people get 1-3 positive OPK's over a 24-ish hr period and they signal ovulation is likely to occur anywhere from 12-72 hrs after the positive.

I know girls who got pregnant within 2 weeks of the last hormone pill. so the week after your period, otherwise known as the first week off hormone pills. I would bd every other day fpr three weeks...if you have the energy
