you can go anywhere they accept tricare. But you will only get a regular eye exam a contact eye exam won't be covered. and of course no glasses/contacts are covered.

So is that how it works even if you do go on base?

Yup, you can look up optometrists in your area on your tricare website, I guess you are on the west coast so, triwest.com

On base it sucks. Some bases don't have an optometrist you can see or else the wait is like forever. They usually have you go out in town.
