On another board someone was discussing a sex offender and recently coming across one... and being surprised that this person was actually, a sex offender.

Do you think, honestly, that sex offenders LOOK like sex offenders? And if that's the case, what does one LOOK LIKE?

"Sex offenders" is such a broad category...and I don't think they have a certain "look" that is easily recognizable. I guess sometimes you run across people that just rub you the wrong way or set off warning alarms, but for me that usually has nothing to do with their appearance and everything to do with the way they talk and act.

No not all sex offenders have a "look" that is one reason so many of them are able to abuse so many people before being caught they look like the guy/girl next door

If people could be that easily identified as belonging into any category be is sex offender, murderer, illegal immigrant, or whatever else it would make life so much easier for the police. lol But there is not one 'look' that will classify anyone as belonging into any category.

no i don't believe that "sex offenders" have a specific look. however, T.V. so many times portrays sex offenders to fit a certain "look" and i believe that society sometimes takes that and transfers it too often into real life.

Maybe a stereotypical view?!?!?

...it's probably a different thing for different people. Had I never been sexually assaulted, I'm sure I would have a much different POV. My mother has the 'he/she just doesn't LOOK like the type to do such a thing, but apparently he/she DID, so I'm wrong once again!'...I know that the friendliest looking people are sometimes the deadliest.
It's really sad. I WISH that people who did such things walked around with blinking signs----with me, you don't get what you see! :(

I think a sex offender can look like anyone else. Someone that went to high school with us told us a friend of ours from high school, who we hadn't spoken to in a long time was recently listed as a GA sex offender because he had molested his children... I thought, no, not him, he loved kids and he was too nice to do something like that, looked on the sex offender list and sure enough 3 years ago he was procecuted for child molestation... I couldn't believe it, so... it could be ANYBODY... you have to be so careful now

I agree with everything posted, while at the same time, I have this image in my mind. Granted I know it's my fear putting a face to it, but there are just some people you look at and go... Man, he is soooo not right.

I wish they all looked the same, that way you would know for sure who to avoid.

But sadly, like everyone else said, it could look like the priest from your church, the butcher at your deli, the fireman down the street.

I don't think sex offenders have a certian look...they could be anyone..Where I used to live it was a gated community and there was a wall that had a list of pictures of all the sex offenders in the area..and no one looked the same
