My Husband is in AIT and he just got his orders to report to Bragg on March 30th. His Grad date from AIT is March 6th and his departure date from Ait is March 13th. I was told he can't put his name on the waiting list untill he graduates Ait and has his orders in hand. The I went on the Bragg website and seen that the housing list is 4 to 6 months long! We have to young children together and I have twins from a previous relationship. What am I supposed to do, how is this gonna work out? Where do I go if there is no housing on time? A hotel? With four little kids? I'm really confused and freaked out. Top that off with the fact that my current living situation is awful and I am just SO ready to go and get this Army life started, know what I meen? Any advice, information, or shared experiences would be GREAT. Thanks so much!

I agree with everyone else. Check off base for housing. I personally will never live on base, as I was raised on them, and like living off so much better. The cost of living is really low around here, and for what you get for BAH, you should be able to find something around here for sure. Good luck!

I'm off-base and I love it :D There are a lot of nice houses and apartment complexes not too far from Bragg.

I have a friend who was in the same situation this past December. They had to stay in a hotel for a couple of days, but they got approved for off post housing. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it was only a matter of a week before they were in their home. She did tell me that the army had to approve it forst so check into that. You can get online and find houses or apartments off post to rent. Good luck

That's another thing I was wicked confused about. I didn't know if I would rather live on a base or off, and I didn't even know if I had a choice or not.

You absolutely do have a choice. You will get a certain amount of BAH each month, it depends on your husbands rank, and the location of where you are stationed. If you choose to live on base, all of it is taken out of your check for your housing and utilities on base. If you choose to live off base, you sometimes can find a place that costs less than your BAH, and actually end up having some extra. That's what my husband and I do. The cost of living is really low around Fayetteville. There are lots of very nice apartment complexes, and neighborhoods very close to base. I know of quite a few military families that use their BAH to purchase a home, rather than rent like we do, and still it is covered by their BAH. Good luck with your move! Let us know when you get here. :D

When i lived there a few years ago the waiting list for base housing was 2 years. It's probably changed, though.
I NEVER wanted to live on base, we always lived off and were very happy about it. At Bragg we lived in the Landmark Apartments, close to Methodist College.

He needs to fax a copy of his orders to the picerne housing office. If you PM me I can get you the number. They will then put you on the list. They will tell you around how long the wait will be. IF there is a wait then start looking NOW for apts. Actually I'd go ahead and do that now anyway JIC. You can now choose to move either onto Bragg or onto Pope. If you are deadset on living in housing then get a month to month lease on an apt that way you can move out when you get housing. Also that way if you decide that you would rather rent a house out in town instead of living on base then you can without having to wait out a lease.
GOod Luck and PM me with any questions you have
