My husband and I have both been told and read different things about DLA (dislocation allowance) when completing a PCS move. Anyways, my question is, I know that you can apply for it 30 days before the move, but my husband has been told that if you apply for DLA and don't move within a certain time frame that they then "demand/ask for" the DLA back. Is this true? Has anyone else heard of this? I've done some research and I can't find anything about it being "revoked" in a sense. If you have any ideas please let me know, or give me a good place to look for this info!!

See and this is why I'm getting so confused because I've also been told that. I called DHs MSG here at Fort Lewis (we're really tight, I'm going to miss her) anyways, she found out some info and said that you can request up to 30 days before the move, because it takes a little bit to get to you, but then I called Waller Hall here at Fort Lewis (the know it all place) and they said that you can get it no early then 14 days before your move, but then DH when he was in his "class" for OCONUS moves said that he can request it now but if we don't move in the time frame then we have to pay it back?!? :confused :duh

I'll I want is a straight answer! Who know's maybe all this info is correct and they just have fun confusing us!! That honestly wouldn't surprise me :P

this is not true-- apply for it 30 days before the move-- then it will come via direct deposit about 10-14 days before the move--- what you do with it is up to you-- you do NOT HAVE to account for where it went.

there are people who use it for deposits, pet fees, and then those like us who use it for new curtians, new cleaning supplies and to relpenish the wine rack!! LOL

tell your DH to go ahead and file the claim in advance you will be fine!!

If you go into housing you can't get it if I recall correctly.

Okay thank you for the info, we'll see if DH was able to find out anything more. We know that we're moving for sure and that it's probably within the next 30 days, he's been in-processing at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for Alaska for about two weeks now and is just waiting on his Alaska orders. And we know that we're going to be living off post since at Fort Richardson there's over a 2 year wait for any type of housing and at Fort Wainwright there's a little bit of a wait but not much, but since I already found my dream house up there and it comes in under BAH, the guy is holding on to it for us until we get the go ahead to get an off base rental! I just want the move to happen already before I get even further along in my pregnancy!

you can't do any moving paperwork or file for it until you have official orderes in hand though so until he has those you have to wait to file.
