View Full Version : NIMITZ Ladies...No Mail Rec'vd yet
phantomfg 02-07-2008, 10:30 AM Just dropping a quick note to let the ladies with SO's on the NIMITZ know that so far, as of yet, no mail or packages have been delivered to the ship. I was wondering whether my daily letters and 3 care packages were being airlifted there. Well, DB said no - shipwide, no. I don't know if this is true for the entire strike group, however.
Just a heads up so you don't worry like I had.
Kathy
sailorsgirl2001 02-07-2008, 12:58 PM My DH is not on the nimitz, but his BG is deployed right now and their battle group did not get mail for the first 6 1/2-7 weeks of their deployment, even now it is hit or miss. Hopefully they will deliver it to them soon.
pbjtime 02-07-2008, 04:34 PM Yea, I've been asking DB, and he said no mail too. Have the phones been down the past 6 days?? That's what DB told me.
phantomfg 02-07-2008, 04:45 PM No phone calls for me since the deployment. I'm honestly not sure if they're available or not. It was a choice we made, or at least an understanding we had, that calls would be very limited.
But, oh my goodness, I can't believe a 6 1/2 week wait for mail. Ouch, that's got to hurt :eek, unless you e-mail frequently - and I'm guessing most do.
Okay, good to know though. At least if I can't make a daily run to the Post office now, I won't stress over it. I suppose that's a plus.
(Gotta look for the silver lining in all situations.)
flangl18 02-07-2008, 05:23 PM Thanks for letting us know. I was wondering how long my package would take to get there. I will let you all know if my DH gets his, but I just mailed it on Sat.
I have gotten one 7 minute phone call, which was a week ago tomorrow.
I get emails everyday unless there is no comm and of course they can't tell us when that will be.

Very possible. I had a call from DH, but that was last Friday.
pbjtime 02-07-2008, 10:46 PM yea my last call was...not this past wednesday, but the one before that Jan. 31. boo
Rainbow Brite 02-07-2008, 11:08 PM :hugs Hope they get mail soon!
FCWifey05 02-07-2008, 11:44 PM I wonder if the letters and cards I sent before they left have gotten to him. Probably not. Thanks for letting us know. I did get a phone call yesterday though. Yay for calls and email.
flangl18 02-09-2008, 10:51 AM Update: Got call from Hubby last night. They have not gotten mail yet, but are supposed to get it in the next couple of days. Of course he can't tell me directly where they are, but I have a pretty good idea and a good idea that they are going to be in port in the very near future - of course no dates or places to be named. I just surmised from the time difference approximately where they are.

Yes, agreed. I have come to the same conclusions as you, and I have some hunches as well on location. Although I haven't received a call, my DB's standing an exhausting number of watches, so I actually hope he'll not call and just rest when he has some downtime. I do hope the mail arrives soon, is sorted, and gets into the sailors' hands before V-Day. I think that would be a real psychological lift for all of them to received letters/packages from home by the holiday.

From my conversation with DH, I think that will definetly happen. He just said due to the operations they were conductioning I guess a COD hasn't been able to come in yet.
I know DH sounded terrible when he called. Bad cold from being up on the flight deck in bad weather. I know he could really use his care package I sent. He has had a few crappy days when he has taken his mood out on me through email and I told him that I wasn't going to put up with it. It is okay to vent, but don't start taking it out. KWIM?
FCWifey05 02-10-2008, 12:51 AM Update: DH called me today and said they had mail call. They had two pallets flown on. And they are scheduled to have another shipment flown on during or after they leave their next port.
phantomfg 02-10-2008, 01:50 AM Excellent news. I know my DB only received a fraction of the mail I sent him. I'm glad another mail drop is expected. Thanks to everyone for the updates.
flangl18 02-10-2008, 11:04 AM Oh cool....I doubt my package got there yet to DH, but hopefully while in port. My sister is mailing a case of GS Cookies out there that I bought for his shop, so I told her to get it mailed ASAP so it will be there by the next port.
phantomfg 02-10-2008, 09:03 PM Not exactly related to the mail issue...but if you know the 1-877 number for the Captain's message, give it a call. It's just been updated. If you don't know it, PM me and I'll give it to you. It always reassures me to hear his voice.
FCWifey05 02-10-2008, 09:14 PM I listened to it earlier :yay for updates.
Emily2008 02-11-2008, 01:23 AM does anyone know if this holds true for the uss higgins as well

Good question. I sure wish I had an answer for you. I know Higgins is a destroyer that's part of same strike force. What I don't know is how the mail service gets routed. I'm sure someone out here with more experience could answer.
Normally, I could ask my DB questions like this...but without him around, I'm at a loss.
MissingHawaii 02-11-2008, 02:32 AM my husband got his package Saturday. the lines were down for a few days. i didn't hear from mine email or phone for a few days. we've only spoken on the phone twice. this is our first deployment so I'm just learnin this stuff.

Hey, I just noticed you're new here. Welcome! It's my first deployment, too, and I'm also learning as I go. My name's Kathy.
:hugehug:welcomeforum
Like you, I heard from my sweetheart recently. His voice thrilled me! I know it helped lift my moods today big time.

It's my guess that the mail may first go to the carrier and then get re-directed to the other ships in the group. But, I'm not certain either. Also (with good OPSEC reasons), what we won't ever know is how the ships travel (in a pack vs alone). So, I think the best you could do is e-mail your man and keep on checking.
I know my DB has only rec'vd 1 of 3 V-Day packages I mailed. I sent them in installments. He rec'vd 4 of 16 card and letters. So yeah, I'm hoping for the best myself. :D
Good luck, Emily. To you and all the ladies reading this thread, have yourself a Happy Valentine's Day Thursday. If anyone gets lonely, you can guess where I'll be hanging, so PM me at any time. -Kathy
flangl18 02-12-2008, 09:26 AM Update: Mail was delivered as of Tuesday. My DH got his VDay package, which I sent 10 days ago.
