View Full Version : Do you believe in global warming?
silent_earth 02-07-2008, 07:41 PM Since I am a BIT (biologist in training) everyone I know believes in global warming, so I am curious that if you do not believe in global warming, please tell me why, cause I would like to hear. All throw in a poll just for the hey of it.
harrisonsdream 02-07-2008, 07:43 PM i believe that the earth is going through a normal cycle however we are exacerbating things
i believe that the earth is going through a normal cycle however we are exacerbating things
:yes I agree.
USMCSGTsGirl1239 02-07-2008, 07:47 PM I believe that there is a big element of it that is cyclical which a lot of people don't realize or acknowledge. HOWEVER, since the industrial revolution with the release of all kinds of untold pollutants, we have succeeded in speeding up that cycle, and everyone could stand to be slightly more environmentally conscious. "Warming" did not happen over night, and it's not going to change over night. Especially if people are uneducated and can't agree how to proceed.
We also need in general to have more respect for the rare animal species we still have left... in caring for their habitats, and abiding by rules meant to protect them.
(and I say that as someone who is very interested in African Elephants, AND who lives in a state where Manatees are, both of which are endangered for a variety of reasons beyond a "listing."

I agree with this as well.

Wicked 02-07-2008, 08:04 PM I didn't realize that it was something to "believe in". It is a proven fact. Whether or not you think humans are affecting it would be more of a belief. I know that global warming is happening, and I do believe that humans are contributing to it. How could we not be?

haha, I absolutely agree with you, but I know there are people that don't think it exists and I'd like to know why makes them believe that it doesn't.

Amen to that, I agree.

couldn't of said it better.
goldilockz 02-07-2008, 08:14 PM Not in the sense that people think Global Warming is occurring.
The earth rotates through natural cycles every few hundred thousand years or so. If the atmosphere is changing, it's a natural occurrence, and not something cause or accelerated enough by man to be noticeable.
Ice Age had to have ended at some point due to some natural occurrence.

I definitely agree.
Bryanna 02-07-2008, 09:22 PM I think the planet is just in a natural cycle... much like the other ladies.
I do think that we arent helping matters with our pollution and lack of respect for nature and other animals.
Tawny brings up a good point that our impact isnt enough to be noticeable against the natural cycle...
I personally think our impact IS noticeable.. but the changes in temperature i think are MORE based on the cycle of the planet.
as a side note.. DH and i fell asleep watching 'an inconvenient truth' ....
Bryanna 02-07-2008, 09:23 PM I'm confused?
i think she meant with all the snow we've had this year (i know we have had record amounts where i am!) she was making a joke about it not being 'warming' of any sort

Ohhhh, I get it, haha, that joke gets thrown around a lot in MN, too, lol.

Agreed
I'm a biochemist in training. I "believe" in global warming. Honestly, I dunno how it is still presented as so "wishy-washy" at times. It seems pretty cold, hard fact to me :dunno
vivalacrap 02-07-2008, 11:31 PM I am completely retarded about environmental biology. But I just want to comment on the following things that everyone can agree are true:
1. Scientists who study the environment believe in global warming and think something should be done about it.
2. Politicians are professional liars who tell us that the scientists are lying to us and we don't need to worry about it.
Tough one. HMMMMM...
Um. WTF, Which one is more trustworthy? I can't stand it when people trust the word of some retarded politician and some lame media propaganda instead of the ENTIRE SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY.
kitkat 02-07-2008, 11:36 PM i don't really believe in it. i mean wasn't it the 70's or 80's when every thought we were going into a global cool down? haha!
at the same time... i wouldn't argue with anyone who's trying to fight against global warming. all of the effects benefit public health.... maybe not the economy... but i'm way more for public health! haha
almostdavis61207 02-07-2008, 11:36 PM I know we are affecting the environment, but I don't think that humans will cause global warming.. the world isn't getting any hotter...?
I honestly don't know a lot about it, but i'm not going to believe in it just because someone said it.
Valkyrie 02-08-2008, 02:16 AM I don't see anything wrong with doing out part to take care of the planet, whether you believe in global warming or not.
To me it's common sense, we only have one planet... Well, except for the one Giuliani lives in.;)
Philsgurl 02-08-2008, 02:28 AM I think that there is alot to the global warming info but I think that there is somethings that people might over step the issues. I think now that we know what the issues are we all should take the time and care and being more aware of what we do.
martiemullet 02-08-2008, 02:50 AM yeah. db has educated me on this more than anyone. the first time he met my dad they got in an argument, bc db is super passionate about global warming, and while my dad believes in it, he thinks that people make it out to be way worse than it is.
