View Full Version : Weekly Menus?
Jennygirl 02-08-2008, 10:21 AM Who writes them? I do a two week dinner menu.
I found that we save so much $$ at the grocery store and its so much easier to write our list too!
HeatherNichole 02-08-2008, 10:22 AM That is a great idea...When I lived on my own I used to do that in my head before I would go grocery shopping, and will probably do that again when I move out again!
sunshyne 02-08-2008, 10:25 AM it really is a good idea! It never works for us though, we always end up wanting something different than is planned :lol
Jennygirl 02-08-2008, 10:32 AM LOL I told DH that he could do that as long as he is swaping with a meal already planned LOL!
Victoria 02-08-2008, 10:36 AM It DOES work to same money!!!!! I've done it, but it was hard for me to stick to it. I'll still write on the calendar what I plan on making for the week though!
DJsWifey 02-08-2008, 10:38 AM I tend to plan out enough meals for two weeks. I don't plan on a certain meal for a certain night though because that is when we will be like oh I don't want that lets grab a pizza or something and end up spending more
MSJackson 02-08-2008, 10:40 AM I used to, but realized it was a waste. There were just too many days that we just weren't feeling what was on the menu that certain day. It just caused more unexpected trips to the grocery store.
FTCWifey 02-08-2008, 10:42 AM I can't do it. Too many days I decide that is NOT what I want to eat that day and then everything else is frozen so we end up getting takeout or something. So for us it would cost more money :lol
I go to the commissary everyday. I decide by the end of my work day what I want for dinner, then I stop by and pick it up. I never buy things I don't need, and I never waste food. It is the best money saving shopping for us!
On top of that, I never have to wait in horrible long lines because I only ever have a few items so I can go through the express line :D

LOL!!! I would just switch around days, because I, too, didn't feel like making a certain something on a certain night. I left 1 day a week for take-out or take-in...LOL!!!
I also left one night for leftovers. When I make lasagna or mac n cheese, etc, there are always leftovers.

We switch the days too!! and we always have left over days! Friday paydays are pizza nights. (but not tonight sniff we wont be home LOL)
Valkyrie 02-08-2008, 12:42 PM We do a monthly menu.
It's flexible enough that everyone can pick anything from the menu as wanted.
And I only have to go back to the grocery store once for fruits and vegetables.
RunAwayLove 02-08-2008, 12:43 PM we do:) well me and Kat do its a good idea!
Rachael 02-08-2008, 12:56 PM I want to sit down and do that this weekend, it helps with sooo many unneccesary trips to the grocery store
Jennygirl 02-08-2008, 02:21 PM You are right and we have saved so much money for it too...I also do a menu for his lunches too. So I know what I am doing all day pretty much LOL And like vicotria said, if we dont want whats on tuesday and wants to switch it off for another day on the menu we will do that!
carlyd89 02-08-2008, 02:23 PM I do that with my family. It definitely helps so we know what to make that night! =]
Miss B Hav'n 02-08-2008, 11:12 PM I do mine for anywhere from two weeks to a month at a time (depends on how much of a "writers block" I have when I sit down to do it, lol). It has made life that much easier for me.
KimberlyG 02-09-2008, 09:47 AM I ALWAYS do that! That's a HUGE money saver. AND, we do have "swap" nights ,but everything still gets eaten BEFORE we go shopping for groceries again...it's a rule!

I do a 2 week also.
aingealbaby20 02-12-2008, 06:39 PM I used to until DH left, I plan on doing it again when he gets back though
s. rosa 02-13-2008, 07:37 AM i do that too!!! i generally plan about 10 meals for about 15 days (so about every third day we have leftovers) and all meals have to be eaten before i'll go back. i give dh a few options the day before and he tells me what he'll want.
since i'm just starting out i try REALLY REALLY hard to use new recipes, and i make sure i don't repeat anything in those two weeks (even though dh hates this, if he had his way we'd be eating taco salad every night of the week except we'd have beer on saturdays:lmao). it really does save us a TON in groceries, and i'm more motivated to cook if i have all the ingredients already here, as opposed to trying to think it up every day and go to the store every day/every other day. eurgh, no thank you.
i just wish i could convince him to let us move on post, then we'd have enough room for a deep freezer and we could buy half a cow!!!:drool and save a TON more money!!! and, yum:drool:teehee
sandykay 02-13-2008, 07:42 AM what ever I pull out of the freezer in the morning is what we eat at night
mitziebella 02-13-2008, 09:20 AM It never works for us. I usually end up cooking what i have in the fridge or what we're hungry for that night.
