you will only need your thimble if your sewing by hand..sorry

do you have your thread?
seam ripper
scissors
do you know what your making? Pillows are always fun to start with...very easy to make too!
Have you read your book on how to use your machine? Do you know how to thread your bobbin? I always play with my new machines for a day to see what they can do before I do anything...right now thats all I can think of i'm sure someone else will add more

a GOOD pair of Scissors and a seam ripper.

Easy sew baby blankets are really easy to start with.

and yes they do have starter kits but I prefer to just buy what I need. I dont use a lot of the stuff the kits come with.

Wish I could help you, but I don't sew. My best friend Brandy does. She does quilts and makes her own clothes. I'm like you . . . the last time I used a sewing machine was in 7th grade in Home Ec. where I made a locker caddy. LOL! (Used it all the way through HS and even hung it up in my closet in College. LOL!) Taking a class is a great idea. I know you'll get the hang of it in no time!! Good Luck, Sweetie!!

Good thread..... its tempting to buy the cheap walmart brand thread... the $1 a spool kind... but it breaks easily. Shaky if you pm me an address I can send you a bunch of large scrap material to play with :D
