View Full Version : Recruiting??
mossey2000 02-20-2008, 08:35 AM DH is considering recruiting in a couple of years if he doesn't get LDO(which I think he will cause he's awesome like that lol). I was wondering what the Districts were in MS and Michigan if anyone can tell me? I know all the pros and cons of the job. You do get your own vehicle right and they pay for gas? That would help, he has a 75 mile commute right now- he might have to find a girlfriend on the coast haha.
girl20racer 02-20-2008, 08:37 AM Hmm.. I'm not sure on that one, I know I had heard that they're gone all the time, but then again what does that change? LMAO
Good luck to him, I'm sure one of these girls will know something!
rosebud* 02-20-2008, 08:39 AM here is the CNRC web page were you can see the zones http://www.cnrc.navy.mil/
As for the car, IF there is one available for him to use then yes but that is only while at work, dh still has to drive his own car to work. One station they have about 8 recruiters and only 3 cars, so a few guys use their POV to get around and there is NO reimbursement on gas for those guys. They give you the recruiter pay and that should "take care of any added expenses" :rolleyes
mossey2000 02-20-2008, 08:45 AM Rose, the closest Recruiting command is New Orleans, so there is no guarantee he could get the Hattiesburg Area right? And for Michigan, no guarantee for the Detroit metro. What the hell is that they dont pay for gas and wear/tear. Thats stupid.

yup no guarantee of anything. Really they go by district. Then whatever is open in that NRD which could be ANY WHERE!!! so that could mean anywhere in the area that particular NRD operates. If you go to the New Orleans site you can see where their boundaries are. Michigan doesn't have a map ( dorks) so I have no clue where they start and stop.
mossey2000 02-20-2008, 09:08 AM Ok. Well so much for his bright idea lol. His best bet is to put his LDO package in I think. Thanks for your help!
froglove 02-20-2008, 09:19 AM No gurarantee. You can request for that area but they can stick you anywhere in the US. Also like rosebud said if there is a car available then they will get one to drive while at work.
Its not bad..except there is no set work schedule. its not 9-5 its 9 to whenever they are done at the end of the day. BUT they DO come home at the end of the day. NO 6 month deployments. There may be occasional over night trips but thats about it.
Your work and how good it is all depends on the zone you work in. Like here where my dh works I LOVE it here.. They are all about family and helping everyone out.
If ya need or want anymore information just ask away. One of us Recruiter wifeies will answer for ya
phantomfg 02-20-2008, 09:22 AM It took soooo long for my DB to make LDO. ALthough we weren't a couple back then, I recall him telling me he finally made it on his last attempt (I believe that was either his 5th or 6th year of putting packages together and submitting them). He showed me his application the year he finally did get commissioned. It was a very heartfelt appeal that he wrote. If he didn't make it, he said he would remain very happy as a Chief. One of the reasons he didn't make it for so long prior was that about 3 of his ships ended up getting decommissioned after his attachment to them, altering the types of reviews he could obtain.
I hope your DH does make LDO. He will love the experience, as Mustangs garner great respect from all. If not, he will find his way in a different field (recruiting or something else) and that too will work out as it should.
Good luck either way. (I don't know your geographical area well enough to offer much more than this.)

My husband did recruiting duty for a total of six years and we've NEVER seen ANYONE use a pov for work. In fact you are not allowed to have any kids "recruits" in your pov or your home!!:dunno

where we are currently ( well not our station another nearby one) they PVC in their own vehicles. if they have to transport I don't know. I am not privy to that info, but out here the zone sups are very hard core about goal, and I wouldn't put it past a few to make a guys transport recruits in their own car if there were no vehicles available. kwim.

That zone sup is responsible for ANYTHING that could/would happen in a POV. I just know that my dh and all the other zone sups he's been around would NEVER allow a recruiter to drive a pov w/a recruit in it. Totally asking for a can of worms to be opened.
mossey2000 02-20-2008, 09:36 AM thanks girls for all your info. We have two years before we're up for orders but I like to know my options.
mossey2000 02-20-2008, 09:38 AM Phatom-that sucks that he had to try for 6 years.

The best thing for him to do if he's still interested is to have him call the districts before transfering to the recruiting detailer. :tu

Yes I know, but all zone sups are not created equally. The few that I do know out here are not all up standing kinds of guys. and I know my dh would never ever entertain the idea of driving a recruit around in his car.
phantomfg 02-20-2008, 09:56 AM Phatom-that sucks that he had to try for 6 years.
Yes. But it made him the person he is today. He would say it was worth it. Persistance pays off.
But, yeah, for sure, my guy's known the concept of 'long suffering' LOL- definitely. Nothing in his career came easy. He seemed to have done it the hard way all along. And yet, here he is a Mustang LDO, and a LCDR in his final years in the Navy. No matter the setbacks or dissappointments life handed him, he never gave up on his dreams. Never. I keep urging him to stay in and try to promote to CDR...and he just might. He's so positive and hopeful despite all odds.
I hope the best for you and yours.
mossey2000 02-20-2008, 11:02 AM Thanks! How long has he been in?
