I've been wondering alot lately, what it would be like if I decided to join the reserves. I would do Navy reserves. I've never been in the military, and I would mostly do it for the extra income. I haven't talked to a recruiter yet, but I thought i'd see if any of you ladies have ever pondered this, or have actually signed up for reserves yourselves. I think my main curiosity is what rate i would qualify for and what rank with a Master's Degree. Also of course I'd love to see what kind of bonus I could qualify for :P. I already know all about the time you have to put into reserves and the chances of being called up for active duty. My only real question would be what bootcamp training would be like for a reservist whose never been in the military before. thoughts?

I was days away from joining the Air Force right outta high school. Chickened out and decided to wait a year. That year turned into 10. Since I've been back in CA, I've thought about it again...but probably wont do it. Now that I have my munchkin, I cant be away from her.

I'm planning on joining the AF as soon as I can. Just have to wait for my immigration paperwork to go through

Personally no. Military is not for me other than the dependent factor. :lol
Your rank would probably start of as an O-1 if you went the officer route or enlisted I think the highest you can get is E-3 or maybe E-4 with a degree. but not 100% sure.
Boot camp would be just like it is for everyone else who goes into the military. There is no "special" boot camp just for reserves. You would go off to Great lakes ( if you enlisted) and go through it there just like anyone else.

I think 'bootcamp' would be my main reason for NOT doing reserves, LOL!

I would not join the reserves for extra money, it really doesn't give that much extra for all the headaches. It's not worth it IMO. If you are joining because you want to serve that is another story. I am looking to join the Army Reserves... one last medical waiver and waiting for DH to switch over and to PCS before going. I have always wanted to serve so its worth it for me (plus a little help with student loans would be nice).

Recently I have considered joining the Army as a reservist. I looked into OCS, but the MOS I am interested in would be very hard for me since I only have a bachelor's degree. I thought about enlisting as well, but AIT for the MOS I would like is 52 weeks and I can't be away for that long right now.

Dual military even the reserves is very difficult.
Our children were the main factor in me getting out of the Navy. I just didn't think the income was worth us possibly deploying at the same time or having to have our kids in daycare all day long. I hated it.......hated it. If you can do it more power to you, but it wasn't a fun lifestyle for us.
