in most A schools they have to stay on base but it may depend on the actual school...

If he's doing a school that lasts more than 6 months apparently the military will move you

DH and I were married when he went to "a" school in p'cola. Even though we moved ourselves and had an apt and DH had already been in for 4 years, he was made to stay in the barracks. He had to go through the phases and everything. In the end it wasnt worth spending the money to go.

If you are unmarried and he is below a certain rank, it may not be worth it. They have to go through certain "phases" where they are not allowed to leave base, etc. He will have to live in the barracks as well, so no sharing an apartment, and he will not get BAH.

Since you two are not married, you can pretty much do as you please. As flangl18 said, there are certain phases he has to go through first. Some A schools don't get to the staying off base overnight phase. It takes a couple of weeks for them to be able to go off base at all!

For PCola you can move down there with him, but if you two are not married then he has to stay on base but he can vist you. (my ex-DH went to Pcola, if you have any questions please feel free to pm me.)

Since you aren't married obviously the military wont pay to move you there. But you can go if you want on your own dime. If he is below a E-3 I believe, he will have to live in the barracks.

Here are all the rules he will have to follow while at PCola A school. http://www.naspensacola.navy.mil/files/nattcnavystudenthandbook.pdf
i read it and it was helpful, they go through phases and each phase increases their liberty. But its safe to say the first 30 days they wont get off post passes for the weekend.
