View Full Version : hmmm i was wondering....and figure you girls would be the best to ask
mccutched 02-26-2008, 09:53 PM hi all,
so i have been thinking. I love my doctor. he helped with my mom's pregnancy with the triplets, and my mom used to work for him. i have known him since i was about 9. i feel comfortable there.
he does take tri-care. :D and we are ttc.
but i have been reading a few posts. and things about referrals to go to civi docs? so he has been my doc since i got AF ....i don't want another doc.
do i need a referral to keep seeing him? my 1 year check needs to happen soon so yeah.
and when i get preggo-will that change do i have to go to a diff doc?
thanks
Tanisha
BubMunkeyBles 02-26-2008, 11:23 PM You can switch off of Prime and use Tricare extra, you pay a deductible and a 15% copay I believe. This is what I'm doing for normal care after having MTF headaches.

Wouldn't that be Tricare Standard?!?!?! :confuzzle
Tanisha, how far away are you from the nearest MTF?!? You could just switch to Tricare Prime Remote if you're more than 50 miles from the neareast MTF...

Tricare Standard and Tricare Extra are similar, but no, they aren't exactly the same thing. Here is a website to help you. http://www.tricare.mil/mybenefit/ProfileFilter.do;jsessionid=HGyBSt0DKyQshVhtDBLlzFcpSX3jzmsP25pns6vV0h07GJSMJf5L!1480155731?puri=%2Fhome%2Foverview%2FPlans%2FStandardExtra

OK, well, first off, do you live near a military hospital?
Are you currently seeing an off post doctor?
mccutched 02-26-2008, 11:49 PM well my PCM i haven't seen at all since last year (in a dif state) but my gyb-on
i have been seeing since i started AF...but i haven't seen him since before DH and i got married. the same with the dentist.
James registered me with tricare and everything last(or the week before :thinking) week- i still haven't gotten a card in the mail.....the closest military hospital is 30 to 40 mins away but in general that where all the hospitals are.
but Dr.Rowe my doc that i'm most concerned with (because i dont care about changing my dentist or PCM) practices no farther than 5mins away.:D and i don't know what he signed me up for- the advanced, regular etc. he proubley told but at night right before i slept.
p.s. thank you and sorry if i'm being a pain

You should be eligible for Tricare Remote
http://www.tricare.mil/mybenefit/ProfileFilter.do?puri=%2Fhome%2Foverview%2FPlans%2FPrimeRemote
Worse case scenario, you could change over to Tricare Standard or Tricare Extra. Just make sure your doctor takes either of those. Some doctors are signed up with Tricare Prime, but not Standard or Extra. If you have any questions about it, call Tricare, not the MTF. Usually Tricare knows a little more about what's going on.
Let me know if you still have questions.
And if your PCM isn't at the MTF, then you're probably ok with Prime, but it doesn't hurt to check!
mccutched 02-27-2008, 12:00 AM thank you so much! i'll be sure to try and figure everything out- by looking it up form the site you gave me:D and see what DH signed me up for...he is stationed all the way in Norfolk and is out to sea for a lil while so when he gets back ill ask him and update:D
Victoria 02-27-2008, 12:05 AM Tanisha, you can always call Tricare yourself. :)
mccutched 02-27-2008, 12:06 AM :lol dont know the number do you have it? i'm in NM would it be different? lol i'm such a newb when it comes to the married side

You should be able to find out on your own by calling tricare. they'll ask for his or your social security number. Here is the number to call 1-888-874-9378 for Tricare WEST(which is what I think NM falls under). In addition to learning what you're enrolled in, you can probably request a book of benefits. We just got one in the mail the other day.
You might also want to look at this site:

I'm in a different tricare region...but I googled for you....
For questions about enrollment, eligibility, benefits, authorizations, and claims, call 1-888-TRIWEST (874-9378) M-F, 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m (all U.S. time zones)

That's what we're here for!
mccutched 02-27-2008, 12:24 AM i know and thats why i (L) msos and a majority of the girls here
rosebud* 02-27-2008, 12:25 AM the big question is mileage how many miles are you from the MTF you have to be 50 or more to get prime remote otherwise you will have to be seen by the MTF then hopefully get a referral for a civi doc. Secondly If that doesn't work then standard or extra would be a better option. But do your homework and comparing before switching, you can't change for a year once you are on a program.
mccutched 02-27-2008, 12:30 AM he will be out on june 2009-might re join in the army but we dont know yet. i don't know what i'm on and its to late to call lol but i will call tomorrow.

letgo0527 02-27-2008, 12:47 AM When I started seeing my ob for this pregnancy, i pretty much just went into the drs office, and they had to send a request to tricare to see me. And tricare approved me for one visit and 3 follow ups, or something like that. And when they sent tricare the paperwork saying im pregnant, they did another approval so i could stay with my doctor. I live 45 min away from the nearest base and I'm on tricare prime. I've never paid anything to see the doctor.
mccutched 02-27-2008, 12:16 PM i see thats good to know - i live about 30 to 40 mins away from the base and i love my doc he knows me and my family very well so i really want to stay with him- i am going to call today after my classes :D
