View Full Version : tricare dental question
Casadorra 02-27-2008, 08:41 AM My wisdom teeth are coming in, and believe or not I dont feel any smarter. I obviously have to get them removed. does anyone know how much tricare covers when it comes to their removal. Do I have to look off post for a dentist?
resless_me 02-27-2008, 08:52 AM are u enrolled in tricare dental?
Casadorra 02-27-2008, 08:54 AM I have tricare prime, does that cover dental?
rosebud* 02-27-2008, 09:07 AM no you have to have to be enrolled in dental, it's separate then medical

:edit I think they cover 40% if i recall their ration right, but not sure since i have never had my wisdom teeth pulled.
either way you have to enroll in dental ( it will take about a month before you will be covered) pay your premium, then once you are covered find a dentist.
icarryyourheart 02-27-2008, 09:09 AM No, you have to enroll separately in tricare dental, and pay a small-ish fee every month. I think for me it's like $11. I don't know how much they cover for wisdom teeth - here's the site:
www.tricaredentalprogram.com
- you can enroll online
** yeah, what rosebud said.. haha

I believe you're right about the percentage...
I went to a dentist in TX that wanted to charge 1,000 for all 4 of mine to be pulled.. (that was before tricare dental's part had been paid).. Here in San Diego, the dentist I see will send me to Balboa Naval to have them pulled...

Yep. You and I have already talked about that... :D

OP i suggest that you make the dentist spell out for you how much before you let him do any work. They can tell you what the cost will be before they start work, but be warned if you do x-rays or anything like that and he wants to charge you too much, while you can go to another dentist you will be charged for the x-rays there unless you get your other dentist to share. kwim. dental only pays for 1 set of x-rays per year.
resless_me 02-27-2008, 09:31 AM and theres a cap of like 1500 a year... after that its out of pocket... but you can get aer loans to cover the rest of the bill if you need to...that much i know..
Valkyrie 02-27-2008, 12:40 PM My daughter is getting hers pulled, we have to pay around $500 out of pocket.
Using United Concordia (Tricare Dental).
thekels9 02-27-2008, 04:51 PM I am getting mine pulled out March 21st. I enrolled in Concordia Dental....and will be covered as of March 1st. From what I read, it will cover 40% (hopefully, my doctor is not on the list, hope it's easy to get it all worked out!) and the rest will be put on my Care Credit card. Haha, and 1000 isn't the worst....mine is over 1500.
I told the (unfriendly) nurse at the doctor that I would look like the Easter bunny at least for Easter this year, with my swollen cheeks!
JudyB 02-27-2008, 06:22 PM YOu will want to find and OS who takes tricare/UC. If you can find one that is also in network for tricare medical then they can also check to see if your medical will cover a portion of it also. Believe it or not but some medical insurances will pick up part of it but the OS has to be in network.
And like Rosebud said....definitely get a price first :yes Another thing you can do is ask them to file a pretreatment estimate. It may take up to 6 weeks to get it back but then you will know exactly how much the insurance will cover :yes
