View Full Version : Flat Irons
ProudArmyWifeD 02-27-2008, 04:05 PM Okay ladies who own flat irons....help me out!!
I'm looking for one of the high end irons but can't decide. Reading online reviews doesn't seem to help. They all have a ton of great reviews and then some awful ones. Ugh.
I already tried a Sedu and sent it back after one day. I hated it!!
Now I'm thinking about either an FHI, a CHI, or a Solia tourmaline...and I'm open to any other suggestions, really.
:pray So does anyone have a flat iron you actually love and would recommend???
:tu Thanks in advance for the help! :D
Loretta 02-27-2008, 04:08 PM I LOVE my Paul Mitchell!!! It's the perfect width, and adds incredible shine to my hair. I sold my Chi the day I got this one! WAY better! I hated the Chi!

Mrs. CJ 02-27-2008, 04:11 PM I have one from Sally Beauty that compares to the Chi...much cheaper...and I LOVE IT!!!
*Sarah* 02-27-2008, 04:12 PM I own a chi and I love it. I have very very thick course hair and it is the best one I have ever used. i have had it for at least a year now and have never had any probs with it.
twobabies 02-27-2008, 04:12 PM I own a CHI and love it but haven't really used anything else to compare and say it's the best. But it makes my natural curls super straight.
PrincessBlue505 02-27-2008, 04:17 PM Everyone I know who has the "best" owns a chi. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them. I have a cheap one that I hate.
Tallgirl 02-27-2008, 04:19 PM I have a Solia.. It makes my hair VERY flat and shiny. ALSO it curls perfect every time
I have FRIZZY curly hair.. here is my hair one day after i slept on it so you can see it lasts.. i usually only wash it every 3days.. hope this helps.. (I'm on the left)

EDIT: I wanted to add that i have owned a CHI and HAI.. The Solia is the best hands down.
angies367 02-27-2008, 04:20 PM I have a Hot Tools ceramic one from a local beauty supply place and I love it. I'm not sure if it's a "good" one or not, but I think it works wonders on my curly and frizzy hair! Good luck!
*MarineBug420* 02-27-2008, 04:36 PM I LOVE my Paul Mitchell too!!!!!!!!!
Steph* 02-27-2008, 04:40 PM CHI - loveeee it!
mrskmw 02-27-2008, 04:43 PM Chi!!
Loretta 02-27-2008, 05:00 PM Durrrrrrr I guess I should clarify WHY I didn't like the Chi :lol
It did work wonders on my hair!! Really, really exceptional, But...it took way too long to heat and longer to cool down, and it kept shorting out...I sent the damn thing back three times!
I like the Paul Mitchell smoother better because it works exactly the same, with no issues and it gets cool in a minute or two. Both are really good, though!!
ashley5 02-27-2008, 05:03 PM i have a tourmaline t3
or something like that
i've had it for 2 years and it still works as great as the day i got it. it was pricy but well worth it. i got mine off sephora.
s. rosa 02-27-2008, 05:21 PM CHIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!! :D love my chi. i have coarse, frizzy, semi-curly hair and it straightens it in no time. the only problem i've ever had with it (had it for about three years now) is effing BURNING my hands on it!:lmao that sucker gets HOT. but imo definitely worth the money, they last ages and ages.
carmel11725 02-27-2008, 06:29 PM CHI...defintely works wonders. i can straighten and curl with it.
go to follica.com. its like a beauty outlet website...sometimes their CHI's are cheaper.
Chevy_Gurl 02-27-2008, 07:15 PM For me it's any steel beveled flat iron

luvmysgt 02-28-2008, 09:33 AM I have a chi 2" turbo.. Works awesome for my curly hair.. Love it.. Worth the $200.00! Tried the others at HEB and such and wont heat up like the Chi does.
HeatherNichole 02-28-2008, 09:38 AM I own a CHI and LOVE IT!! I haven't tried any of the other higer end ones though...Good luck!!
toxicpuree 02-28-2008, 10:47 AM CHI - loveeee it!
me too! this (http://www.amazon.com/Farouk-CHI-Inch-Ceramic-Hairstyling/dp/B0009V1YR8/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1204213426&sr=8-1) is the one I have; it's about 4 years old and just as good as it ever was =]
DJsWifey 02-28-2008, 10:54 AM I don't flat iron my hair enough to justify something expensive. But I have known tons of people who have sworn by CHI's
cheerkelly 02-28-2008, 11:00 AM I've owned several flat irons, and the one I truly love so far is the Chi. My hair is nasty with frizz! The Chi is the only thing I've found that straightens it without burning the heck out of it.
I have a red one...but just for an FYI, my cheerleaders have told me that the black ones (original ones) actually heat up faster and last longer. I bought the red one anyway. LOL!

yep, ive heard that too.
most of my friends have the colored limited ones and thyve had to exchange them 2 or 3 times. mine is the original and has worked perfectly for 3 yrs so far.
piggypunkinetta 02-28-2008, 11:16 AM I have a sedu. It works really well for me and on occasion I can get dd to sit still long enough to straighten her hair.

Rain. 02-28-2008, 11:22 AM I got a Solia in 05 and LOVE it. I still have it to this day and it still works. I just ordered a new one tho because DH accidently stepped on the plug and they got all bent
ProudArmyWifeD 02-28-2008, 11:32 AM I have a sedu. It works really well for me and on occasion I can get dd to sit still long enough to straighten her hair.

piggypunkinetta 02-28-2008, 11:38 AM Did you take the photos in your siggie?? They are gorgeous!!!
Thank you, they were taken by a professional photographer here in San Diego. The pictures are two years old. :blush When dh gets back from deployment we are going to get them taken again.
Kristen 02-28-2008, 02:39 PM I have a Chi Turbo that works awesome. I use it on my Mom's hair, which is really difficult, and it works wonders.
One thing to make sure of on any flat iron is that the plates meet evenly. If one end meets, and the other end gaps, it doesn't matter how well it heats, it will be a pain in the ass.
OMG it's Andrea! 02-28-2008, 03:32 PM i've used a chi and hated it. i bought a flat iron from bed bath & beyond for $40 and have never used a better one.
mxngurl956 02-28-2008, 03:35 PM My flat iron is from Sally's Beauty Supply, the make is ION....its super duper good, its only 100$
DianeS 02-28-2008, 03:46 PM I have the CHI and love it! It is the only flat iron I will use!
Meleana21 02-28-2008, 03:52 PM I have the one that they sell at the kiosks in the mall. Before you ask I didn't pay the $100+ in the mall. I bought it on ebay for $35
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anne24 02-28-2008, 04:21 PM I have the Sedu. I love this thing. There is just something about the black ceramic plates that works wonders on my hair. It's the same price as the CHI but I lucked out and got it for free because my hair stylist got a bunch of her own free samples at a trade show and she just gave me one. That was a happy day!
LindsayErin 02-28-2008, 04:26 PM I own a Chi and I also LOVE it!
wb3690 02-28-2008, 05:59 PM I LOVE my Paul Mitchell!!! It's the perfect width, and adds incredible shine to my hair. I sold my Chi the day I got this one! WAY better! I hated the Chi!

I JUST bought this the other day after my chi turbo died.
I really really like this paul mitchell one better. the girls at the store said it was their favorite and I picked it up. It heats up super fast and my hair was shinier and straighter after using it. No lie.......
girl20racer 02-28-2008, 06:07 PM I have had a CHI since 05 or so and I can't believe i waited that long to have un poofy hair :rofl I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Works wonders :yes Got it off ebay too lol
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z293/drea-rachelle/2yull3r.jpg
BradsPrincess 02-29-2008, 11:15 AM CHI is by far, hands down the best. but i couldnt afford one, so i got a higher end one at target, and i love it. it does great with my hair. i have naturally curly frizzy nappy hair lol. Not sure of the name, but target does have some nice ones
Shaky 02-29-2008, 11:35 AM I own this one (http://www.sallybeauty.com/jilbere-ceramic-tourmaline-flat-iron/SBS-345101,default,pd.html) It works great with my hair and heats up very fast. I paid around $50-$60 at Sally Beauty Supply. I don't flat iron my hair that often to pay $100+ lol
Kiser'sBabe 02-29-2008, 11:42 AM I have a Sedu and love it. I got it off Amazon on sale.
Jennifer 02-29-2008, 11:48 AM CHI for me.
Ashnbri 02-29-2008, 08:38 PM I have this one http://www.drugstore.com/qxp94832_334918_sespider/remington/wet_2_straight_model_s_8000i.htm.. I got it at walmart and it is a wet 2 straight remington it wasn't that expensive but it is the BEST one I have ever used. I have REALLY thick curly hair and this actually gets it stick straight...It doesn't work well on my hair when it is wet which I know isn't good so I never use it then but otherwise I love it.
settles 02-29-2008, 08:45 PM ive had 2 chi's and i currently own 2 sedu's and i jsut ordered a new one called a croc
im not sure how to spell it though.
its a new one, my friend has one and its better than the chi and sedu combined!! i think it runs about 200 dollars but i found mine online for about 125 :0)
USCGBoxerMom 02-29-2008, 08:51 PM I just got a Belson... (this one http://www.sallybeauty.com/Tourmaline/Ceramic/Ionic/BUYNOW01-01-01,default,sc.html?prefn1=brand&prefv1=BELSON) from Sally Beauty.
I had several flat irons and quite honestly I like the ceramic better than the Tourmaline....it works better on my hair. Either way make sure you use a heat protectant spray or you will FRY your hair.
crewchiefwife 02-29-2008, 09:06 PM i have a herstyle and i love it!! keeps me from gettin those lil frizzys!
