Hi Everybody!! :pray Please give your advice!!!!

I'm going to San Diego for my brothers basic graduation at the end of April and I was wondering if you guys can give me some info about it. I don't care what you tell me, I want to know it all!!! :D
I believe we're flying down (from MI) Tuesday night and coming back Saturday morning. I'd LOVE to hear about what you did while you were there, if you got your Marine anything for graduation, where you stayed (we're staying at the Howard Johnson Sea World place, which I've heard is good and bad), where to eat, how much money you brought with you...everything!!!

I'm so proud of him that I want to make the most of the time he has with us, though I'm sure he'll be pumped just to sleep and chill out by the pool...

PS - I already know to bring a box of kleenex, so that doesn't count as advice! ;)

THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!

Shit, I think I posted this in the wrong section.Sorry...
I've searched threads too, but didn't find much...please let me know if I missed something...
Thanks again...

Well, I didn't go to any bootcamp graduation, and I didn't go to San Diego for the Marines... But I have been in San Diego a few times to see DB.

Sea World and all those places are fun to go to as touristy stuff... but your bro probably won't feel like that. Uh, Old Town was neat to walk around in, and so was someplace else that Define mentioned and I can't for the life of me recall the name of now... The food is fabulous.

I blew through ~$200 in five days. But that was kinda vacay shopping and food stuffs and whatnot. :dunno

There's fabulous parks and beaches and whatnot, where you guys could relax while enjoying San Diego. Dunno what you guys are looking for, and I've only been a few times. But, there. Some advice. Now those who know the area better (loooooots of them) can fill in the real stuff.

Depends a lot on what he likes to do. If he's up for touristy stuff, you can do Sea World, or the San Diego Zoo (he gets in free!). Old Town isn't too far from where you are; there's lots of older architecture to see and some FABULOUS mexican food! There are beaches galore (and it's a decent temp there right now). If you like seafood, go down to Harbor Drive and go to Anthony's Fish Grotto. It's on the water, and they have great food! The Star of India is close by, as is the USS Midway. It's an aircraft carrier that is open to the public. To be honest, he's probably going to want to sleep and eat! You can also do a google search for seaport village; they have some really cool shops and things of that nature; fun to walk around. Hope this helped! If you have any questions, feel free to PM me! (we just moved from there in Jan)

I agree your brother will probably want to sleep! So plan a couple things to do with out him and hopefully the rest he will go. Horton Plaza is a cool mall to go to and Seaport Village if you want to SHOP. Old Town is great for Mexican food, lots of places to eat there and a sort of outdoor museum there, it's a hacienda. There is Balboa Park with loads of museums there if museums are your thing.
USS Midway was cool to see, I loved it. There is also the Star of India which is a tall sail ship that is still in operation but you can tour that when it's in port, next to that is the ship from some Russel Crowe movie... I am having a brain fart... what's that movie???
Mission beach has an amusemant park with a roller coaster and a wave machine to surf on!
Geez, I lived there for 8 years... what else to do? There are alot of beach communities to see. Oh, you can rent boats at MCRD. They have a marina and the rates are cheap for military. However, I am not sure what your brothers limitations will be. There may be restrictions on where and how far he can go so keep that in mind.
If your brother likes baseball there is the downtown ballpark and you can see if there will be any home games during that time and go to a game.
Also you can check online to see what's up at the convention center.
Hope that helps.

ETA: Harbor cruises are fun!!! they have a dinner crusie, too! There is also the Trolley Tour!

I really appriciate you responding. I'm clueless when it comes to Cali. I've never been there!
My SO is pretty fresh out of Airforce basic, and all he wanted to do was sleep too, so I figured my brother would do the same.
I'm soooooo excited!

Seaport Village. Yeah, that was where Define sent us, and I loved it. It was so gorgeous and fun to walk around, and I got killer shoes there. :P
