So, as I mentioned in my other thread, I have a job interview tomorrow at a Real Estate company.
BUT...
I already have a job offer as a Human Resources Assistant Manager for a major Hotel here where we live, the job would also include some Sales/Advertising/Marketing work as well.
Here's the problem, I don't like HR or Sales/Marketing (I studied both in college), and I don't particularly want to work in this field. The pay is good, the position is good, the hours suck though and my husband feels that I should take the job because its putting my "college degree" to work. I, on the other hand feel that I should work in something I like and want to do, not in a job just because of the money and position I would have. And I don't feel that I should take the job until I find a different position that I would like better because that really isn't fair to the company.
The HR manager called me today and pretty much begged me to take the job. But, I really don't want it, and I hate to say that because we desperately need the money.
I'm just kinda :dunno right now.
Thoughts/Opinions/Advice ??
tell her you'll think on it and wait to hear back from the real estate agency!!

I absolutely despise being an attorney so I know how you feel. I can see the dilemma... but I think if you possibly can, try to wait it out for the real estate job. You don't want to be miserable.

I wish my husband would understand that. He sees the HR job as me being in "Management", while the Real Estate job is just like a glorified "Secretary" position pretty much. :irked I feel alot of pressure from him to take the HR job, as well as I personally know the HR manager, so I will still have to see her routinely even if I turn down the job.

I would consider this:
While the HR Assistant Manager position does not seem to have the excitement factor the Real Estate position might, I don't think the HR position is in a market which is currently ripping its guts out. Simply stated, now may not the optimal time to enter the Real Estate sector as agents are leaving it in droves, and with good reason.
I would recommend taking the HR position and then riding out the downturn in the market. Eventually house prices will stabilize and rise again, as they have every time the market had a crunch and "put the US on the brink of another depression." :whatever
It's the old saying... a Bird in the Hand is better than two in the Bush. You can always get into Real Estate when things start to pick up.
I do not think the Real Estate position is a "glorified secretary" and do understand the prospect of working a job you don't particularly have a passion for. I just think that the RE spot might soon turn out to be a less than optimal occupation at this time.
Gook Luck!

Thank you very much for your advice. I'm not taking either job actually, so I guess it all works out for the best. I made a post in the general forum as to why I'm not taking the Real Estate job.
I see you are a Navy Veteran...so is my husband. :D :tu
