Seems as though DH has been keeping something from me, because he didn't want to worry me... It's coincidental that I posted something about it a couple months ago...

She said that he coughs constantly, and has been asking the VA to check his lungs. He worked in a welding shop with my DH, and he did alot of grinding and welding. She is concerned that the fumes and dust may have damaged his lungs.. I told her that is kind funny, because my DH doesn't have a sense of smell anymore. I can smoke in the house, and he doesn't have any idea.

She said that he told her the respirators that were provided to them were CRAP and didn't work well at all... This caused us both to get a little upset, because if we had known the respirators were pieces of crap, we would have gone to Home Depot, or a welding supply company, and purchased some good ones and sent them in a care package..

I'd gladly shell out $200 for some proper PPE for her hubs and mine. :tears Why didn't they ask? Why didn't they say anything?? :spank I did send him some welding hats, he used them....

DH went to the VA on Tuesday for :quotejust a check-up, Smalls, don't worry about it:quote

When he came home, he sat me down and told me that they have found 19 spots on his lungs ranging from 4mm to 12mm, and they haven't shrunk since he's come home... He kept it from me because he didn't want me to freakout.. which I did anyways because he kept something this big from me..

He said that the Army is probably going to ignore any responsibility, because they provided them with gas masks, and it's his own fault if he didn't wear it..... I asked him how they expected him to wear a gas mask AND a welding helmet at the same time..

I'm certain that whatever is growing in his lungs is unoperable...:worry

I guess my point is, if you have an SO who's in a welding shop in Iraq, send him a nice, good, expensive respirator. :sigh

OMG!!! I would think that the Army would do something about it because it happened as a result of him doing something for the Army (mask or no mask) I don't know though. I'm sorry girl. :hugs

I guess we'll see what happens... There was a couple of guys in the welding shop that welded without helmets on, and had to go to the Doc for burnt eyes. They got Article 15s...

Wow, I am so sorry to hear that Lindsay!!! I have to admit that I would be freaking out. My MIL's husband was a pipe fitter for most of his life (constant welding), and for his last few years he had horrible lung problems. I hope something can be done for your husband and that he can overcome this. You both will most definitely be in my thoughts sweetie! Many many :hugs and :goodvibes

I really dunno if he's going to be okay.. :shrug The way the VA is, they won't tell you ANYTHING, they just say, "We'll send you a letter."

They're going to send his x-rays to a specialist, and they'll send us something in the mail in the next few weeks.. :dunno I really have no idea what's going to happen... I thought about googling "spots on lung" but I don't think I'm ging to even tread there yet. I'm not to the point where I really want to know anything...

DH has drill this weekend, I think I'll call his battle buddy's wifey....:depressed I better call my sister too...

Good luck with your phone calls girlie, hang in there... maybe they will figure out it's something else... or maybe some schmuck misread the films to an extent. :pray

Take it one day at a time, and don't work yourself in a frenzy over the information on google. :hugs

Ugh this is scary. My son is a welder for Liebherr and I don't think he wears a respirator at all. I'm going to ask him for details on this. He does work with men that are much older and have been welding for years with no problems.

It's a concern I have always wondered about.....also for his eyes :sigh

I don't know for sure what's going to be set up, I guess we just have to wait for letters from the VA. He said they did take blood... I think for the next few weeks I'm just going to stick my head in the dirt and pretend nothings wrong. I just don't feel like dealing with this yet. :tired

Spots could mean a huge number of things but they're normally found to be granulomas (little inflammatory nodules caused by irritation). If that's the case, I thiknk they clear up on their own. If they haven't grown at all - they've remained the same size - I wouldn't worry too much. I know, easier said than done! :hugs
