View Full Version : MARRIAGE?!?!
Trishy0815 03-10-2008, 10:38 AM DB and I were talking last night and I was having one of my sad deployment days but we were doing GREAT! Then this conversation happened..
DB - i'm so sorry I'm screwing everything up
ME - no you're not baby
DB - I should be there with you
ME - I'm proud of you and this will just strengthen us
DB - if you're there when I get back from Afghanistan I'm going to marry you
ME - :tears (happy ones!!) are you serious?!
DB - yes baby i want to marry you
ME - more happy tears! you're making me so happy baby
DB - i was thinking of doing it on my 4 day pass but i thought it wouldn't be special ((his 4day pass home starts next friday))
ME - taking your last name is what i want. if you wanted to on your 4 day pass I would in a heartbeat, if you want to wait, i'll wait. Trisha Silva.. that sounds perfect!
DB - baby! you make me so happy!!
we talked about it alittle more, i could tell he meant every word and was about to cry by his voice!! I want to ask him on his 4day pass. I want to support him as his wife, not just his gf. maybe i'm crazy. but he asked me last night if i was serious and i said yes because i know he's my soulmate. i know he's the one i am supposed to spend my life with.. so i was wondering, is there anyone who knows if there's a quick way of doing that before someone gets deployed?! bc my aunt said you need a marriage license which takes 2 weeks, and aside from going to vegas, if he reallyyy wanted to when he came home next weekend, could i?
jsskwill07 03-10-2008, 10:41 AM Where do you live???
Fidzy 03-10-2008, 10:41 AM It depends on the state, they vary. There's no waiting period in NH and in NY there is a 24 hour waiting period. Usually at most it's a few days. So look at where you want to get married and research the state's requirements :D Congrats!
lemc81 03-10-2008, 10:42 AM :thumbsup:bliss:happydance:hula:clapping:jump4joy What a great conversation!! As a GF, I say go for it. I wish I had agreed to get married before he deployed because I would have rather supported him as a wife then a girlfriend. If you're okay not having a big wedding (and then maybe doing something when he gets home) then go for it! I don't know how long it takes to get a marriage license but you can call and find out pretty quickly. :congrats
QMC's Wife 03-10-2008, 10:43 AM It depends on where you live.
jsskwill07 03-10-2008, 10:45 AM Yep it depends on where you live. I lived in TX when we got married and there was a 3 day wait I think.

Brightstar 03-10-2008, 11:35 AM CONGRATS girl!!!! This is so exciting. We just got married on March 1st :) But yeah, we did it and he is gonna be deployed in may..and we went to the courthouse in california so we got our marriage license and have a ceremony in the same day. You probably should search on internet about your state. They probably tell you that. GOOD LUCK :D
little.lili 03-10-2008, 11:50 AM i had a court house wedding on Friday.. we just showed up and not even 20 minutes later we were married :)
you should call you're county and ask what are the requirements :)
soldi3rs 4ng3l 03-10-2008, 11:56 AM Aww :congrats hun...It's so sweet to hear that another couple have found true love.
The whole marriage license really depends on where you live..When dh & I were getting our license (we were married in another state) all we had to do was go to the courthouse, fill out the information, give them the copies of info they asked for, & waited for 10 mins. We could've gotten married that day but decided to wait for a week.
Best wishes & let us kow how things go. :hug
NurseFriday 03-10-2008, 11:58 AM Yep it depends on where you live. I lived in TX when we got married and there was a 3 day wait I think.
My DH and I got married in TX. No waiting period there for active duty military.
HunnyBunny 03-10-2008, 01:58 PM When I was in florida I know that you can go fill out the paperwork and get the license and then you have to wait only 1 day before you can actually get married and get the certificate!
Hisgirl 03-10-2008, 02:44 PM No wait in VA, that's where we got married.
Congrats!!! I bet you are on cloud 9!! Yeah!!
tinsygrl 03-10-2008, 02:46 PM :hugehug :congrats Good luck!
mrsfaller 03-10-2008, 02:56 PM YAY!!! Congrats!!! That is sooo exciting! It even made me cry a little. lol. call and find out if you can pick up the paperwork and fill it out without him. doubt it, but its worth a try!!! Good luck!
Trishy0815 03-10-2008, 06:56 PM since he's deployed, all i need to do is get some of his info, go to my town hall, fill our papers, wait 3 days, and ive got a marriage license!! then, i already have a lady that will marry us the weekend he's home.. so
IM POPPING THE QUESTION TONIGHT!!! PLEASE WISH ME LUCK!! everyone says that since he said he was thinking of doing it his 4days home he wont say no.. but im practicing my speach and hoping he calls tonight because im asking him to marry me!!!!!! I HOPE HE SAYS YES!
USAF_SF_Wife 03-10-2008, 07:23 PM I'm in NH and we went down to city hall, filled out the ppwk and did it all that day. We brought the ppwk that was signed by our justice of the peace and went to pick up marriage certificate later.
itwillbok 03-11-2008, 11:27 PM My DH and I got married in TX. No waiting period there for active duty military.
There is no waiting period in Texas for anyone......get your license and get married. Same for Arkansas.
SemperWife 03-11-2008, 11:51 PM well, what state do you live in? CA (san diego county) will let you get your license and get married on the same day and get your certificate 3 business days later.
in NV, you can get the license and get married on the same day but, takes 7 business days to get the certificate.
just remember that all states, and even counties will have different rules. Some states will even give you the certificate on the same day. My best advice to you is to call the specific courthouse you plan on getting married at, and ask about their policies.
