So - our chihuahua use to be a stray, we took him in 2 years ago.
And he NEVER eats dogfood (dry)
He eats catfood, rice, corn and a few other odd foods - but NEVER dogfood. :sigh

Now - our vet has been telling me to just try different brands but he just doesn't eat dogfood. So - why not? What's so different between dog and cat food that a DOG won't even touch the dogfood stuff? LOL - the vet doesn't even know.

I think catfood has more fat - and it really isn't good for dogs... If you leave a bowl of dry food out, have you tried not giving him anything else?? Charlie was getting way too spoiled and he wasn't eating his dogfood. We had to be strict about not giving him anything else, now he eats the dry food because he knows he probably won't get anything else... (of course he does get tidbits ever once and a while again........)

That worked for us...

Well - what he does when I'm stubborn is be super select with his dogfood and pick out only certain pieces that he likes or he even just eats the outside off the kibble or something like that. So, really, it's a waste of money.

She's told me that catfood isn't the best thing for him but she never told me the reasons why. If I knew it could possibly be a danger to him then I would have been strict with him a long time ago about it.

He will eat when he's hungry... Maybe you could try getting some samples of different dog foods???

my dog was really bad about that when I first got her...I tried SO MANY different kinds of food before she would settle on one..what a princess right? :giggle
And the worst part is she would eat the new kind for the first few days and then refuse...
Finally i got to the point that I would just let her go without eating one night and then the next day she was starving!!! Good luck!!

:giggle When we first moved here I tried to rescue a weinie dog. Well the silly thing would NOT eat. Thank God a few days later I got a phone call from his owner. She only fed him chicken livers and rice, so that is why I couldn't get him to eat. I was very glad to get him back to his owner :)

try soaking the dry food in water (not a whole lot) and putting it the microwave for 30 secs and let it cool off then offer it to you dog. the scent might not be strong enough for him/her. Or try dry food with doggie gravy on it. they sell it in most pet stores. Good luck!!

cat food had more taurine.

maybe it's the size of the kibble. my aunt's chihauhau eats itty bitty sized iams. the kibbles are smaller than cat food, actually.
