Has anyone had any of their little ones go through this? How was it? What exactly do they do/learn there?Would you recommend it?
My oldest DS is turning 3 on the 24th, and his speach teachers want him to start either Pre-K or Headstart. But im so nervous, i mean he's never really been around a lot of his kids for a long period of time. And im really nervous about sending him on a bus. I dont know if its just me, or if others have felt this way. :dunno
Im nervous but excited that he can go and spend time with others, learn and make friends, and give me and my youngest DS time to spend together. But it just feels so weird with him going to be going to school. cuz that also means my youngest DS will be going to school next year.

My youngest goes to Headstart. It's great its only 3 hours a day they learn a lot. He won't qualify for Headstart because they have to turn 4 by the state cut off date. Maybe you can find a daycare that offers some pre-school like programs. In WA they had ECAP which I think you could start at 3 if i remember right.

We haven't done headstart but Madison was in a preschool program in Hawaii and is now in a pre-K program designed to help them get ready for kindergarten. She's learned how to write her first and last name, they've gone over letters, they do math type games but don't work strictly on math and they are starting on writing numbers. They do early reading prep type stuff, some science stuff and a lot of art projects.
That's her school though so I'm not sure what other ones would do but Madison LOVES to go to school and is so excited for kinder next school year. I am going to put Hayden in their little critters program (for 2-3.5 year olds) for the summer and fall.

Ds goes to PreK, on base, but it is a program funded by the state of FL. He goes M-F 9 until 12:30. Right now they are learning phonics! I love it and it's at no cost to me. His teacher is awesome and her goal is to have them know the alphabet, visually and phonetically by the end of the year. They're also learning their numbers!
If anyone is in FL, this is available STATEWIDE and it's free!

Good post. I have to start looking for it due to my DS speech issues. We are looking at just a small program. Something for him just a few hours a week.

Oh and Texas Ladies your kids automatically qualify for headstart because their dad is in the Military. New law in effect this year. :yes not deployed just in the military.

Out here, they count BAH as income. So as an E5 with a family of 5 and me not working, we make too much for headstart:rolleyes
One reason I am looking forward to going back to VA. Pre-K is in the public schools and free. So Chris will also be enrolled in school next year.
