My ds had his 3 yr check up today. Everthing is great, but the doctor said he had a lot of wax in his ear. What's the best way to get it out? Any products you can suggest?

Ask THEM to do it or have them prescribe drops. My oldest has excessive ear wax and the doctor said there isn't anything we can or should do. They cleared it with that loop tool thing they have and prescribed us drops that loosened it up and flushed it out.

:yes Yup same here. they flushed my ODD's ears when she was that age. The doc usually told me to only get what I could see on the outside.

i had a loop thingy that my mom found for me. I use to clean out their ears every once in a while, but then I lost it so now we are back to being deaf. lol

I'd be scared to do that myself :lol Alex's was so clogged a couple of weeks ago the doc accidently yanked out ear hair with it because the wax was so hard :sadeyes He even bled!

I was surprised that the doctor didn't try to clean it... I should look for one of those loop things. I hate using q-tips because I'm afraid I'll stick it to far down

All q-tips do is pack it in there and make it worse anyway (but I of course use them on myself :lmao) They've told us before that my kids have a lot of wax and never cleaned it... but this time Alex was so bad she had to. The wax is a good thing, it keeps the bad junk out of their ears.

I only use a qtip to swab what comes out of Baileys ears. Her dr hasnt said anything about the inside yet.

my bro had excessive earwax as a kid & my mom used the loop thingee on him.

my grandma swears by candling to clean out ears every so often. i guess some serious gunk comes out.

I flush them. We do it all the time at work so it is nothing for me to do it at home :lol Just grab a bulb syringe and stick the kid in the bathtub. Fill the bulb with clean water, not the tub water, stick it in the ear and squeeze. Obviously, if you don't feel comfortable with this don't do it. It probably would've freaked me out to do it on my own kids before I had practiced on the people at work. It doesn't really require skill though.

I clean the outside of their ears with a Q-tip and I use a wash rag in the tub to clean the outside and the warm water goes in there I am guessing. The DR has never said anything so I am guessing I am keeping them clean with the right amount of wax left over LOL

dd had her 12 month appt yesterday and they told me the same thing about one of her ears. He said that he couldn't even really see it because there was so much. All he told me was to wipe it when I see it.

We were told to use hydrogen peroxide, pour it in his ear and try to keep him still for a minute and then let it drain out into a paper towel. We only did it once....it wasn't a lot of fun with a squirmy kid.

I've read that those ear candles are a huge hoax. That the wax you see after doing it is not from the ear but from the candle thing itself. I've never used them but after reading that, I don't really want to try them :dunno

Here is a link to some stuff I've been seeing a commercial for lately. Looks like it might work good:D

Qtip brand makes a baby safe shaped Qtip that's physically impossible to get inside any ear canal. I use those to get what's visible and even if I'm tempted to try and clean those ears up a little more, there's no way I'm getting in there!

We'll see what happens at her 12 mo check up. Sometimes it looks like she's got a candle factory going inside there.

I have always been told "Don't remove it".....only clean around the outside but stay away from teh inside.....and if it gets too bad then go to the doc and they'll remove it safely..
