View Full Version : Any doggie psychiatrists in the house?
cheerkelly 03-13-2008, 10:52 AM My dog (a spoiled rotten shih-tzu) is acting very strange lately. He has NEVER slept with me! From the time he was a puppy, he always slept with my mom. Even if he didn't sleep in the bed with her, he would sleep in her room on his doggy bed.
All of a sudden, the other night...I heard this loud pitter pattering as he ran to my room and jumped on my bed! He came straight to me and laid down next to me. He slept there on and off. He would jump down and leave...and then he would return to sleep some more.
Last night, he slept with me the entire night! My mom is still in her room, and nothing has changed, as far as her sleeping habits or anything.
I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why he is suddenly sleeping with me! I used to try and get him to sleep with me, but he'd always leave me to go sleep with my mom.
If anyone has a clue....I'd appreciate it. I'm not complaining...I'm just curious! :)
On a happy note...I still haven't started my period!!! The pregnancy test yesterday was negative, but I'm hoping that I just haven't built up enough hormones to show a positive yet. :pray
MSJackson 03-13-2008, 10:57 AM have you been sick? i know my moms dog would only come lay with me when I was sick. I was told that dogs can sense those kinds of things and are very sympathetic. If this info is correct, :dunno. Just what I have experienced and heard.
cheerkelly 03-13-2008, 10:59 AM I remembered reading about that too, but I haven't been sick at all. It's totally out of the blue.
My doggie is pretty goofy. I like to say he's 99% "shit" and 1% tzu. I know...bad Kelly! Bad!
Miss B Hav'n 03-13-2008, 11:55 AM Well, considering your mention of hoping for a BFP that may be coming into play. I know my animals sense illness and pregnancy (my cat became obsessed with laying on or near my belly LONG before I started showing any obvious signs of change) and react in ways similar to what your pupster is doig.

Right after I wrote the section about hoping for my BFP, I thought about that too! Wouldn't that be funny if my poopy dog figured out I was preggers before the test did!? If that's the case, I'll have to fix him a steak! Yeah...he's WAY spoiled!
Purpur 03-13-2008, 12:39 PM Most dogs will notice an change in your hormones, and they will react differently. I'm a dog trainer, and I've had multiple dogs tell their parents that they are pregnant before any test could tell them.

I luv, luv, luv the sound of that! Since he has NEVER slept with me before (and I have tried many times to get him to sleep with me...but he's my momma's baby...sniffle, sniffle), I thought it was pretty odd. I sure hope he's just sensing more than the pg test sensed! :pray I have to admit that he's a smart little booger! :)
cheerkelly 03-14-2008, 10:49 AM The funniest thing happened last night! Mikey got into town, and we played with the dog for awhile. Mikey loves my dog, and my dog loves him.
After we turned off the lights and tried to sleep, the dog laid down at the bottom of the bed...and he started growling and barking at Mikey! He wouldn't budge! I pulled my doggie closer to me to try and soothe him, but the minute I'd stop petting him, he'd look over at Mikey and start growling again! I finally had to put the poor pup out of the room!
This morning, the dog was in love with Mikey again, like it never happened.
Isn't that bizarre?!
wisend85 03-14-2008, 10:58 AM That is bizzare. My dog senses when something is wrong or when someone gets hurt or something. She is right there, so maybe she senses a change.
cheerkelly 03-14-2008, 11:04 AM There's got to be something my poopy is sensing. I'm hoping he senses that I'm pg. LOL! But who knows. I think it's weird that he evidently didn't want Mikey near me while I was sleeping...and I sure wish I could read that dog's mind! Ha! Ha!

I frequently wish the same, or that they could talk so you would know.
bain5511 03-14-2008, 03:29 PM I would say that your dog may sense a change in your hormones. They are very sensitive to things like that. I have heard a few stories about dogs acting protective of women before they found out they were pregnant. I hope you get your positive!
crewchiefwife 03-14-2008, 06:09 PM he probably senses the hormone change... maybe your dogs mad that mikey got you preggo hes like a walking dna test :lmao

LOL! I'll have to change his name to DNA instead of Vino if he's right!
