Ok i was just reading a thread about "pulling out" and i didnt want to steal the thread so i made my own.
well me and my husband don't "pull out" and dont use condoms.. but i do use the patch.. i was taking the pill for a few months after i gave birth and it worked fine but i forgot to take it alot so 2 weeks ago i got the patch.
i was just wondering why you guys "pull out".. is it because birth control doesn't work sometimes? or is it because you guys aren't using birth control?
im trying to get an understanding here because i dont want to be using this birth control but i still have to take other precautions ya know?
i don't know much about the patch but what the military doctor told me: just put it on for 3 weeks, 3 patches for 3 weeks and thats it. they never go into detail with me and i feel like an idiot if i ask questions. :confuzzle
so yeah.. i just don't know..
and i don't know what the right question is to ask!! ha ha ha!
so i guess give me your thoughts i guess!

Some people use NFP or natural family planning. Basically you don't use contraception but rather rely on your body to tell you when not to have sex and when to have sex, also some people do use the pull out method which can be effective when using NFP.

i dont understand the natural family planning can you explain it more please? how do you know when to have sex and when not to?
also why do people do that is it better or healthier?

Not much help about your actual question, but the doctors I worked with stopped prescribing the patch because of the high risk of blood clotts associated with it. Just though I would make you aware:D

You get 66% more hormone with they patch which makes it more dangerous. There have been many cases of death and even more of clots. For a short while the patch was taken offthe market.

Basically the same as if you were trying to get preggo, you temp watch your CM that way you can track when you are ovulating so that you don't have sex during that window of ovulation. here is one of many sites about it. I know my own body so when I am not on BC i can figure out when to and not to have sex. one of the perks of being in tune with yourself so to speak

My doctor made me stop taking the patch a while ago.. I guess they are using it again, but he strongly advised me to switch to something else..

Oy, the patch made me so sick. I'd say get the Nuva Ring - much safer and easier to use.

Genetics and family history may or may not play a role in the instances of clots. The risk is there no matter what your genetic makeup is, ofcourse it is higher if you have a family history. :yes

I just had an appt with a hemotologist and he explained all that to me

IMO I would just not risk the patch. They brought it back because there was no hard proff that it was the patch alone and not other issues that caused the death in the girls. I have you ever looked into an IUD, the copper is good for 10 year(though i would go with the other), the merina sp? is good for 5 years and can give you shorter lighter periods. The nuva ring is also good, small ring you insert into your woo-ha for 3 weeks then a week off and repeat. I've had an IUD and loved it but i do know it's not for everyone.

Yep

The doctor should have had you fill out a questionnare to find out your family history and your own hostory and based on that determine the best BC for you. They all have different hormones and hormone levels so they effect people differently. So genetics can mean an increased risk, and as was said, you can get blood clotts even if no one in your family had them

maybe go with the nuva ring or the shots (though not sure how long those last) but the ring I think has the same positives as the patch (you can put it in and forget about it for a while) just not the side effects of clots. :dunno

ill have to ask about the ring..
i was really asking about this last month i suppose.. i guess i'll stay on the patch for this last month..and then.. should i get off birth control all together once my husband and i part for this whole year? we part on the 15th of april.. (im sure you all know this by now :P )
im afraid to do that because i dont want my hormones to change on me.. but i really dont want to be taking birth control for nothing you know what im saying?

If you only take it to prevent pregnancy, then I would just stop it. I don't think the hormones will throw you off very much. It saves money too if you don't have to be on it:D

Just want to say that I have been on the ring since it has been on the market and I LOVE it. It is not painful or irritating at all. You don't even know it is there. Has very little side effects and has kept my hormones under control (as far as mood swings). The pill never helped on any of that. I feel as good if not better than I do with out B.C. Put it in, leave it for 3 weeks, put in another right away or wait a week. Even with waiting a week, my periods are shorter and lighter. TMI, I know, but I am a total advocate for the Nuva Ring! If hubby is deploying, no need to take it unless you need it for reasons other than birth control.

You're a sweetie! I found a lot of help on the website too, these ladies are amazing:-)
Yeah, might as well finish the patch now and then shop around before your hubby gets back. So that you know what works for you by the time he is home

that does sound like less of a hassle then the pill you never have to remember it... but i dont know if i like the idea of putting something in there.. i cant even stand tampons half the time but we gotta do what we gotta do..

Hm...pulling out is an effective way to be careful if you don't want anymore children. I've heard of couples using a condom and pulling out, AND BC so yea...lol.

I was on the patch and had a mini-stoke just a couple of months ago. Just be careful. I was hospilitzed for 2 days after my right side going numb and lost speech for almost 5 hours. I lost some memory but not much. If you can get on another form do cause after you have a stroke you cant get on any method but maybe the IUV. And Im too scared to get that.

I feel ya. don't really like tampons anymore. Used to, but not now that I have had 2 kids... I dunno, but the Nuva Ring is NOTHING like that. Very comfortable, you don't even feel it!

ok...you can get pregnant even using the "pull out" method.

i was using the patch, but i heard it causes more problems than anything so i stopped and now im on the pill. i just started birth control again after i had my baby. we decided before that we just wouldnt use anything and if it was time for us to have a baby, then i would get pregnant. it took a year and a half for me to get pregnant.

im terrible with keeping up on my pills but just set an alarm on your cell phone or put a post it note somewhere you always are with whatever time you need to take it. take it with a meal or something. like i always take mine with dinner, or right before i go to bed if i forget to at dinner. if you eat a certain meal around the same time everyday just make that your routine, eat that meal, and pop your pill.

the patch, and the shot, ive only heard bad things about so i dont know. i like the old fashioned pill more than anything...
