I use sugar in mine, if I want "real" sweet tea.. 1 to 1 1/2 cups of sugar per 3 qt. pitcher. I like the taste of lipton tea bags (as does everyone else who drinks my tea..:giggle) so I use 5 small bags per batch.. To make it easy on myself, I use an iced tea maker, but in the past I've brewed it in the coffee pot (cleaned first of course) and then added it to a pitcher of sugar/water.

You could always make a simple syrup.. 1 cup water to 1 cup sugar. Turn the heat to low and stir constantly until the sugar dissolves completely.
To test if the sugar is completely dissolved, use a metal spoon to scoop up a small bit of the syrup. Tilt it over the pan and watch carefully. You shouldn't be able to see any crystals in the liquid.
At this point you can add flavorings; add about a tablespoon of any liquid extract. You can also stir in 1 tablespoon corn syrup to help ensure the syrup stays smooth.
Let the syrup cool to room temperature, then pour into a clean glass jar and store in the refrigerator.

I also have an iced tea maker. I use Luzianne tea bags...usually I put 3-4 little bags in the maker. While the tea is hot I put in about 2 cups of sugar then stir so it's all dissolved, then add the water to fill the pitcher up.

If you don't have an iced tea maker...i would suggest using 3-4 little bags of tea in a small pot (1 quart) add water till almost full...boil on stove top for maybe 5 min's till the water is all brown from tea...then pour into a pitcher, add sugar (how ever much you desire), stir, add water, and stir again.

Personally I like for my whole pitcher of tea to sit overnight in the fridge so it has a chance to ferment (so to say) I feel like the tea needs to be chilled and it helps give the tea flavor a chance to mix better with the water.

It's AWESOME as an iced tea!! At McDonald's there, that's what they use for their iced tea. :tu

I boil a kettle full of water on the stove. I use a 3 qt pitcher and use a cloths pin to hold the teabags on the side. I use 5 small Lipton tea bags. I mix in 1 to 1 1/2 cups of sugar with the water while it's still very hot and let it steep for 20-30 minutes. Then I fill the kettle up with cool tap water and fill the pitcher up the rest of the way.

It's always better after sitting in the fridge over night.

Also my Granny puts a pinch of baking soda in her tea to help take the bitterness away! HER TEA IS AWESOME!!!

I think my tea is pretty darn good as well! From the way it sounds it's about the same as Melissa's!

i use my coffee maker. I can never remember to get it off the stove and the tea maker has always had a weird taste. I use three small bags of lipton and two of green tea. I use 3/4 cup of sugar but my DH likes 1 cup.

I got this from my ex that loves sweet tea. He boiled water then put in lipton tea bags in 2 of the family size ones. He let it cool but not too much then put in about a cup of real sugar and stir. Then let it sit until it was room temp before he put it in the frig. Hope that helps!

my sweet tea recipe.
5 teabags ( whatever kind you like)
boiling water ( i normally put the bags in the pot with water when it boils turn off the stove and let them sit for a min)
1 cup of sugar for a 2 qt jug
take the bags out of the tea dump that tea into the jug, fill with water stir and just the right amount of sugar for the tea. This works for everyone in my family. My parents don't like uber sweet tea and I love sweet tea so this can be drunk by all of us.

I use any old store brand tea, so long as it's black pekoe. Six bags, and two cups of sugar. Add water to taste(I let it steep for a few hours or overnight). It usually makes about two gallons for me.

I cna't drink it because of the diet I'm on, but it tastes just like my grandma used to make. :drool
