my fiance just came home for R and R about a month ago and he had alot of signs of ptsd. he has already been diagnosed with it from his last deployment but they sent him back and now he is doing even more dangerous and crazy things. when he was home we experienced alot of complications. he had alot of nightmares and would wake up in the middle of the night reaching for his riffle. he told me one morning that he was mad that he was home because he didnt have his weapon with him. it really upset me but i knew it was just him readjusting. he felt the need to go back and finish his duty and mission he was supposed to be doing. as soon as he got back to iraq he said he was sad and wanted to come home. we had great times when he was home though. he set up so many romantic dates and finally proposed to me after 4 years of a relationship. it was great. i just need some advise on how to deal with his ptsd for when he comes home for good. i know hes going to get treatment for it but im worried it wont work. if anyone has dealt with this it would help to hear your story. thanks ;)

Well...my husband is currently seeking treatment for his PTSD through the VA and I was also worried whether it would work or not. Well...so far, he has been to four sessions and they have placed him on some medicine to help with depression and nightmares. These past few weeks my husband I have been through a lot with dealing with his PTSD and I can totally relate to your worries and struggles!! By going to the VA, my husband has had a chance to talk about everything and anything that was "eating him alive" from his first deployment. I believe the medicine has done wonders for his nightmares but of course, he's not completely over it. My husband returned from his first deployment in 2005 and he's just now FINALLY receiving the treatment he needed back then. (the longer they wait...the worse it gets)
I wish you two the BEST and the only advice I have for you is to understand that PTSD is just as bad as a severe physical injury except that people can't see this injury....stay strong and I strongly advise counseling!
